plz answer question about 3000GT and Eclipse
This might be a stupid questoin but if you put up a '95 base 3000GT against a '95 Eclipse GSX, what would win?
I'm thinking of selling my '95 3000GT for insurance cost reasons and buying a GSX. What do you think? |

That depends on the year. There was a base model 3000 that put out 161hp but on other years the base was the SL model at 220hp. If its not the SL the Exclipse will be faster.

the gsx is a turbo, which gives it more power than a base 3000, and sliiiightly less than an older base, or an SL...
having seen a 99base race a 95base (3000gt's) it was almost a dead tie the whole way, even though one hase 60hp less... they must have done something to make up for the drop in power from 96-97.... now if you put a no-blow car eclipse against a no-blow 3000gt, then the gt will shine... |

he gave years.... the 95-3000gt has 220hp, the eclipse has 210.... and slightly less weight, my money would be on the eclipse.. even though id take a 3000 over a turbo eclipse any day... especially a black 99 3000gt.... turbo or not, they are freakin sweet rides....

stock-stock... the gsx should win 9 times out of 10. 2nd gen GSX should run high 14's low 15's on a fair-good launch. A DOHC n/a 3000GT will do 15's on a good launch.

The GSX will spank a$$ everytime. The NA GT is almost as heavy as a VR4, but without the power. Sell it and get a GSX. More fun anyway. Lighter and shorter wheelbase. And the Performance parts are cheaper too!
Have fun with your soon to be new Eclipse!!! |

Arent the 3000 GT VR-4 really really heavy, i heard they were like 300 pounds to 2 tons? Is this one the reasons y the VR-4 is slow??

It's about 200lbs heavier than a Supra...

All the mid 90's Japanese Supercars ran close to the same figures 0-60mph and qaurter mile. Around 5.5sec 0-60 and 13-6 to 14.00 Qrter mile, depending on driver skill. I have owned both a Supra and a 3000GT, and although I love the overall feel of the Supra. The raw nastiness of a GTO twin turbo AWD launch gets me everytime. I personally think the Supra has a sportier Supercar feel to it, as far as interior creature comforts and seating our concerned, but the VR4 has the more muscular looks, and the Monster power to back it ALL up. You can line up any Supra/300zx/RX7/Skyline/3000GT, and it will be a tie between the Skyline and the GT all day...especially the 60ft times!!!! |

I agree, VR4 is heavy, but not slow if properly modded.
I witnessed a 95 VR4 make a good run at a local dragway last October... 12.175 @ 112.59 with 1.747 60 ft

The GSX will win, no dought. There's about a 6 hundred pound weight difference plus the awd advantage. Now if it was a VR4...
