Skyline over Firefly and Prelude
instead of powering civics and integras i think the very least of us should purchase the better cars like 91 fireflys cause i love them great cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hmmmm...... second to the Nissan Skyline though....AWD 280hp 0-70 under 5 seconds sounds pretty close to the firefly but i almost forgot my other car a 1981 honda prelude i dynoed and the thing said: instead of number figures it said it was time i needed a new car so thats why i got the kickin firefly. Did i mention the gas economy in these great cars! Anywayz the performance value of these things are through the Roof!!!!!!!! were talking a whooping 55hp!!!!! but like i said the skyline beats it by a small margin.... cause the skylines got twin turbos and the "turbo" firefly has one. 2 is better than 1.

And i have a question...i always hear all this Skyline stuff...is this car available in the States..or do you have to get it from Japan or something? Sorry...dumb Canadian here.......... GO CANADA GO!!!!! GOLD MEDAL IN MENS AND WOMENS HOCKEY!!!!!!! We invented it....therefore we are the best!!!!!!!

Motorex imports them from Japan, but at huge price. You can get a well used one, several bodystyles old for $30-40K. The newest ones run around $80-90K or something like that. Those are ballparks, I don't remember what my bro told me.

part of the extra 30 or so grand is the cost of shipping (from jdm land to usa) and the cost of legalization in the us.... there are some mods that need to be done to comply with laws that make the car street legal...
and shipping isn't cheap... it's close to 10k, depending on how it's shipped/insured... and.... the market is pretty hot for a skyline... they can get em easily in new zealand, so they are cheaper... we can't. price is up. that's why rare shit is expensive. supply and demand... now i'm teaching an economics class. if you want it bad enough you'll buy it. end of story... |

Can someone please explain to me what JDM means? I'm more of a American/European car guy, and I keep hearing this.

JDM is a pretty simple term. It means "Japanese Distribution Market". The import crowd generally uses it to describe any part or car that was unavailable stateside.
Some examples of good JDM stuff- Nissan Skylines Integra front clips that don't have the goofy quad headlights SR20DET engines for transplants into 240SX's C-West carbon fiber aerodynamic parts Some examples of lame JDM stuff- Folding S13 mirrors (I don't get these at all) Type R Civic badges. (if you didn't get the engine, don't wear the badge) S15 Silvia headlights (these are getting overdone, the only cars that should be wearing Silvia parts are Silvias) R32 Skyline tailight panels (same thing as the Silvia headlights) Hope this clears up the mystery of JDM.
