shift knob

has anyone changed the shift knob on their spec vs yet?/ i am having a hell of a time trying to twist it off.. how the hell do you get it off?? any help appreciated. thanks

twist counter clockwise, it is really tough, but it comes off. it has a type locktite on it, you'll see flakes of that crap when you get it off.

thanks man.. i will give it a try.. how does the boot hook up?? will it look ugly if i change the knob??

i put an ichibahn shift knob and boot on my spec v. it looks awesome. the boot isn't complete yet. with our cars you kinda have to modify some stuff to do it right. but the knob looks awesome.

Is any company making a short throw shifter for the spec-v?? Im gettin kinda tired of the long throw...

Why are you guys changing your shift knobs? I think the Spec V knobs look great... I want one for my Z :P

i personally think that the spec knob is too plasticky i think most owners of the six speed agree with this..

yeah, the knobs feel too plasticy.. also, i noticed some of the paint starting to come off around the edges.

I just changed the knob on mine today. It took some vice grips and a prayer to get that son of a gun off. Good luck.

Isn't there some kind of tightening bolt on there? I thought I felt something (havn't actually looked) when I slide the boot down while driving. (while sitting in traffic actually)

My knob came loose one day on it's own, but I screwed it back on and it stayed on. I too think the original shift knob is pretty nice looking.

OBX has a short shifter out for the Spec-V, they have had it out for a while now. And as I have mentioned in past posts, they run roughly $150 or so but I think they only sell to authorized dealers.
