I used to pick up any aftermarket knob for my Toys, (PU & 4runners)... with the correct shim inside the head, different sizes come with the knobs, it was just a matter of locking them on with the side screws.
Never had any problems due to the shaft size.

Any knob from any old Toyota will just screw on.. I had one from an MR-2 for a while.

Question

Okay, here's a stupid question.....

how do you take the shift knobs off? I've tried pulling on them, twisting them....they will not come off...

I'd like to change mine...but is it worth the hassle?

Twist the ever-lovin' hell out of it, it will crank around on itself about half a turn or more before it breaks loose. The "Nissan Gorilla" puts those suckers on.
A pipe wrench with a rag works, as will the "strap wrench" but some have just resorted to cutting through the knob since they were replacing it anyway.
