Legalizing Marijuana

I was just wondering what all you guys think about legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana. I was just reading an article from the government of Canada and from what i can tell i'm almost postive that they will decriminalize it within 5 years here in Canada. I think this because in the article there are people in the government, in the ministry of health that say it doesn't harm your body and alcohol and cigarettes are a thousand times worse for your body. This is direct stuff from the government!! They were also already thinking of laws and taxes to put in place on marijuana, they were sayin that in the not to distant future that they are most likely going to make laws that will decriminalize marijuana, on law was it will be illegal to smoke in a public place. So it will be perfectly legal to smoke it in your house and they said there will be a certain amount that you will be able to carry with you. There was also a poll performed, about 15,000 people took part in it. They said that out of those canadians polled 70% were for decriminalizing because they think it will be safer that people won't buy from illegal drug dealers but straight from the government (they said only about 4% of the people polled actually smoked marijuana). Drug dealers will obviously still be illegal because marijuana will be sold by the governement at certain locations.

I gotta find the article so I can post it, but i was just wondering what you guys think

how much does it cost in the states? I heard you guys gotta pay alot for it... i don't know what you guys go by in the states but a 1/2 ounce here is like $120 canadian so like $80 american

Hell no! A half O is about 35$ in the states. Sometimes less. an O is about 60, usually less if you have a cool dealer.

Where I'm at, there are about 3 basic grades of weed.
-dirt, or brown, or mex is about about 60/ounce
-mids is somewhere higher, but cheaper than green. I dont trust mids, if your cheap, get dirt, if not, get kind/green.
-dank, green, kind. usually 50 to 60 for 1/8 ounce. once you get used to this stuff, you don't go back. this stuff is the shit... looks like stuff outta hightimes.

As for the Legalize issue- I read that most of Europe is going to 'sort of legalize' it. For instance, in Brixton, a section of London, limited amounts are tolerated (not prosecuted). Similar to many other western european countries. And, in Spain, apparently everything (even heroin) is OK now (Oh, I must go visit the motherland!)
And, they did mention what someone said about Canada. Even that one entrepenuer is going to seup cafes all along the CAnada/USA border.
I read this stuff in a little mag called TIME Magazine. No shit, go to time.com, I think the article is called 'Europe goes to Pot'
Anyone from over there clear this up? Especially Spain.

I doubt that USA will legalize it, especially as long as the same folks in power are the folks in power.... You see, they profit from the drug trade. They profit from the drug war. The CIA has admitted that they have imported drugs, and will continue as long as it is 'in the interest of national security'.

Now, if they profit from the importation, and the drug war (weapons/technology profits) there is one more place where profit is possible. So is it a coincidence that there are mandatory minimums for most drug offences, and that since the drug war started there has been a large trend to house inmates in private prisons, which are profitable to private parties, not to the public?

Well, I don't drink, smoke, or do anything "bad", but in my opinion Pot should be legalized. Although I personally have no desire to drink or smoke pot, other people should and I think they should have the right to choose. The government fears giving people power of decision, yet I think that vesting responsibility in people makes them act responsibly.

Besides, pot isn't as addictive or troublesome as tobacco and alcohol, so there's not reason why it should be so taboo and a bottle of jack and some smokes is perfectly okay. Although some say it is a gateway drug and the evidence for or against it's harmful side effects aren't always clear, alcohol and tobacco pose more of a problem to us.

So, although I don't have a desire to do any, and I don't think any need to be legal (but prohibition definitely WON'T work) the government should make it legal.

I think that Canada is going to do it because the government wants to profit off of it, if they keep it illegal they're wasting millions of dollars on the "war against drugs" plus they're wasting police activites on it, they should be concentrating on a murder case and a psycho fugitive not a 16 year old who just wants to hit a sesh and chill in his basement, not causing any harm
They're going to legalize it because they want to get rid of drug dealers, they want people to buy from them that way they can tax it and make HUGE money to help the nation, that way there will be more money for healthcare, education, etc.

those are the prices somebody told me me from the states after he came here... I was like holy shit!!!

Given the topic, I'd assume you'd me much more mellow... :smoker2:

I have about the same opinion as enzo, myself. They should tax the hell out of it though.

Personally, I don't like smoking of any kind. I think it's disgusting. I'm glad CA doesn't allow smoking hardly anywhere. It's so weird when I go to Vegas and have to remember to be seated in the non-smoking section.
