marijuana legalization

i realize there was and old thread recently brought up about this, but i would like to discuss this withouth reading the entire old one

i would like to point out a a couple of pros for marijuana
#1 Marijuana causes brain damage
marijuana has never actually been scientifically shown to cause brain damage to humans the only record of marijuana shown to cause brain damage was a study performed on monkeys who were given near lethal doses during a 6 month period. to put this in perspective a person would have to smoke 40,000 times what it takes them to get stoned at one time to take a lethal dose of marijuana.

in the early 90's DARE or some other organization broadcasted a commercial showing altered brain waves of a person who was high. when confronted on the commercial by marijuana activist groups, the organzation admitted they had faked the results, but the statement was never made public

#2 Marijuana is a gateway drug
this one is easy, simply look at amsterdam, although not legal it is highly tolerated, Amsterdam's rate of hard drug users is about 25% less than that of the US. What does this mean? Marijuana actually keeps people away from harder drugs.

#3 Driving while on marijuana
Driving while high should not be tolerated, but i would like to point out that around 90% of fatal crashes that marijuana was included in, the people were intoxicated, and only had marijuana in their possesion. But the gov leaves that tidbit out.

#4 Marijuana makes you lazy and unproductive
Yes every lazy person you have ever met is a pot smoker and that is the only reason they are lazy. I personally know Doctors that smoke frequently.

Seriosly the worse part about marijuana is that it is illegal and drug dealers and terrorists profit from its sale

Re: marijuana legalization

Actually, the worse part of marijuana is the general consensus of the public over it. If marijuana was legalized.. housewives and soccer moms across America would go into a terrible fit over it. It will never happen in the States.

This was a nice debate in my Government class between two kids who really knew what they were talking about.
I forget the exact information but the person standing up for the leagalization of pot, the person against it had a counter-point to every issue and won the debate.
I don't ever see this stuff sitting on the shelf at your local drug store. Maybe if scientist alter it to a point to where there is no concern but until that happens, no way.

Re: marijuana legalization

The government could get a better hold on it and use it to an advantage if they really wanted, and I don't doubt it's been thought of before.

Think about it like this:

Alcohol is sold to persons of a certain age. It impairs judgement and motor skills. It is illegal to give it to anyone under the age of 21 or use it while driving/operating machinary/etc. Places that sell it have to have a license to do so.

Take into consideration the amount of money profited from alcohol each year, and then replace alcohol with marijuana, with nearly the same, if not more regulations. It could work.

Now, that doesn't mean I am advocating the legalization of it, I'm simply saying that if they really wanted to, it wouldn't be AS difficult as some might think.

I like chronic butt I feel if it was legalized the economy would go crazy because everyone will be thinking about the bowl of chronic after work instead of actually working.

Re: marijuana legalization

I think it's because the only people who want to legalize it are smokers/growers themselves. And it's obviously pretty hard to come up with a convincing argument after smoking a bowl...

82KnightRider - no, but I did try with matches the other day. Something different.

Re: marijuana legalization

Stoners need to realize that it will probably never happen, and if they are so hardcore into pot...move to Amsterdam.

I don't have a problem with it being legalized as long as mistreatment is the same as alcohol. No driving. Fired if stoned on the job. No consumption in public (give someones kid a contact buzz and get smashed in the face).
