firewall template for hydraulic clutch on '68
I have a 1968 Mustang with a 289, T-5 five speed with hydraulic clutch linkage. the pedal assembily I got for the conversion (w/clutch pedal) is for a car with power brakes, thusly the brake pedal is longer than the one for manual brakes, which is what my car had. I would like to go ahead and install a brake booster and use the power brake pedal, but they are large and the hydraulic clutch master cylander would be in the way. I read in a magazine that it can be done, but it is a tight fit, and a firewall reinforcement plate and template is needed. Does anyone know where I can get the template to make the plate and ensure everything fits? Or is there a smaller booster I can get that will fit and work? I heard of a place in LA using them with cable clutch conversions, but when I called them they were reluctant to say anything (which is why I didn't have them convert my linkage!) No, I have no idea where that magazine went.
Also, the clutch pedal effort is very difficult right now. It is at a 4 to 1 ratio, (about 12 inches from pivot to pedal vs 3 inches from pivot to load where the rod is connected) and I am using a ford competition clutch for later model mustangs. Is this natural? will the clutch lighten with use? am I at the wrong ratio or should I get a new master cylander with smaller bore? (I don't remember off hand what the bore is on the M/C that came with the kit)
If I move to a centerforce clutch (my original choice) will I have noticably easier pedal effort?
If anyone out there has expierence with hydraulic clutch conversions on early mustangs, please help me out!
Thanks in advance
Matt
