What is wrong with some people?

Are there no longer formalities when racing? I always have thought that if you want to race you throw a rev, honk your horn, or say something. Well not in Orem you don't.

Tonight, Neutrino and I went looking for a little racing action in Orem. The first thing we come upon is a Stealth R/T. This was a rather long light. Not a single peep out of him, I wasn't expecting a race, but no, the light turns green and he floors it. He takes off and is a good two or three car lengths in front of me before I floor it, I start walking up to him and this is with the damn thing misfiring because of the damn spark plugs being burnt, but I am still walking on him. As soon as I get next to him he slams the brakes. Then we catch the next red light. Light turns green and I gun it. He didn't even try; I left him in the dust. So I shut it down and the next thing I know is he goes flying by me and his girl waves goodbye. I mean give me a break. All I can say is that was fun though, I didn't expect to run faster than him, he has 224HP compared to my 205, and my intercooler isn't even working and I was misfiring. Just imagine had I been running at my full potential. That amazes me that was a good race.

Next, we are at a left turn behind a CRX with a tip on his exhaust, don't know if he has done anything beyond that. Next to him is an Integra, not sure which line, lowered with an exhaust. Both are revving at each other. As soon as the light turns green they both go. I take the chase and whiz by them both. How funny, nothing more than some common rice.

Lastly was a GMC Jimmy. This was stupid because I wasn't expecting a race from them at all. They didn't rev, they didn't honk, nothing at all. Light turns green and they floor it. I am just thinking WTF? So I pace them and goose the gas a couple of times to see if they think they can take me fairly, no go, they chickened out. It would have been a waste of my gas anyhow, I know I could have handed them their ass.

I just get sick of people racing without letting you know that they want to. I guess they need an ego boost thinking they won when the other person didn't even know they were racing.

I know what you mean; people are punks nowdays. Lately, when that happens to me I just let them go. If they want to be a punk let 'em. Don't get so about it.

Thats true... I see people come through the drive thru all the time w/ their bodykits and big wings/exhaust tips and guess what I see when I look inside... its an automatic :P

Such a waste... most of those little cars are slow with 5spds... then they throw in an automatic

haha i've seen guys in automatics who try to act all hard by putting the car in neutral on a hill and when its time to go then they shift into drive.. so the car lurches. It doesnt help the tranny out any... but it must make them feel like they're cool.

Aint nothin wrong with an Automatic... I love them, for a daily driver. But for a sheer racing Manual is nice. Im not about to cut up my Nova to install a Muncie 4spd... sorry. Ill just have to fool people with the mighty COLUMN SHIFTER! ha haaa... ever try to rally a column shift? Its quite difficult.. but can be done with technique!

I'd much rather have a Floor shifter with a quarter stick, with a nuetral safety lock-out. So all you do is mash gears as you keep the pedal floored. My friends 70 Camaro with a 355ci has it, its awesome (gosh the car launches hard).

Aren't automatics better for big muscle cars too? I have heard that a muscle car with an auto trans will be faster than the same car with a manual trans (in a straight line anyways...)

Are they faster, or just more consistent since they don't miss a shift...

If I had a muscle car, I would want a manual trans for sure... just because I would be "different" :P

well as for Muscle cars being faster with a Manual or Auto... you can make the Autos just as fast with proper mods like shift kits, and if you're that into it diffferent gearing in the actuall transmission. and with the proper Stall converter installed you can launch just as hard as a Manual.

but then again nothing like chirping the tires in all 4 gears with a munchie..... heheh.

doing a burn out with a Manual can be a pain. Autos make it very easy to do a burn out... like at the track, get in to burn out box light em up and get them warm then race. Manual .... it can be done just takes a bit more effort. ahha plus im lazy =P

a decent auto can be as fast or faster on the upshift because they match the revs perfectly. but IMO they will always get mixed up every so often.

I have yet to race any kind of import. seriously though, what do they have to lose... they could always just make excuses like... "its only a four banger" or the ever-popular "I missed a shift" its like they are in denial or something.

I know what you mean... whats with the ricer excuses? You never really hear the V8 guys bragging about beating a 4 cylinder (unless its a turbocharged monster 4 cylinder), but if an import driver ever beats a domestic V8, you will never hear the end of it :P

When I get my ass spanked by V8s, I don't make excuses, I give em a thumbs up and be on my way

Its to bad there aren't more people willing to be gracious losers (and about as many bad winner out there too)

I too, get tired of people taking the race and then pissing and moaning about the results.
