DC vs Type R header for b16a
Someone asked me today if I had looked into getting a type R header for my car. I'm assuming this is going to cost more $$$, how's the performance compare to what DC offers?
Is the type R header 4-2-1? ok, this might sound like a stupid question, since we pulled the engine from a clip (everything from bumper to dash), maybe I already have a type r header? How do I check this? Last edited by CRX586; 07-16-2002 at 01:39 PM. |

not to nag on you, but it sounds really stupid when people say they're getting "headers" for their civic. There is ONE header. you are getting A HEADER not HEADERS.

i would think that a aftermarket header would flow more than a type r header anyways. crxlvr, you cant be sure he doesnt have a type r header because you dont know who the previous owner was, he may have put one on, unless it was your car that got smashed

well i only say that cuz not too many peeps will splurge the near $1000 price tag for the headers, but they should have a MUGEN etch into the flange just before the pipes.

I don't think that he was talking about an aftermarket Type-R header, I think he was talking about the OEM header from the JDM Type-R.
I'd go with the JDM R header before most any USDM aftermarket header. Its good 4-1 header design with a 2.5" collector and full SS with SS welds. People see better gains on a B16A with the JDM ITR header then they do with a USDM DC 4-2-1 or whatever. Plus, the DC will rust and shit. If you want something that is just as cheap as the DC header, but gives really good gains too, ask a competent shop if they can get the JDM DC header with the 2.5" collector. I know a local guy that can get them, but that doesn't help you being in CA. People get pretty good gains with this header, but if you go to it its a good idea to get a 2.5" cat and exhaust too.. (obviously) |

Anyway, the next 3 mods will be exhaust, header, and cat. So of course I want components that will compliment each other and work well with the b16.... jdmhondaparts.com has the DC b-series header for 380.00. Good price? suggestions on an exhaust? |

$380 sound like a not bad price I guess.. I'm not sure what headers cost in american $, but it shouldn't cost much (if any) more than a USDM DC header. Just ask around.
If you're going 2.5" exhaust you might have to go custom.. I know a couple JDM companys make 2.5" exhausts, but I'm not sure about getting one for our old Civics. See if Kakimoto has a website, I know they make a 2.5" for the 99-00 SiR (Si for you americans).

I'm thinking of getting Greddy's MX exhaust - 60mm = 2.36" - my friend told me that +/- .25 " is ok for your header/cat/exhaust set up...

well just to clear some things up,
it would be impossible to get a jdm r header from a front clip unless you had a jdm r front clip or the previous owner put it on. And to tell if you have it or not, just look if doesnt look like it's made of cast iron and it's a 1 piece design. Secondly the jdm itr header is not ss, yes it's made of steel but it's not stainless steel. And lastly the jdm dc 4-1 puts out just a tad more hp than the jdm itr 4-1. |

front clip
My engine came from an integra front clip - the entire clip (bumper to dash) was shipped here from Japan - took about 4 months, worth the wait I guess cuz I got some JDM parts I can sell to offset the cost...
