turbo timer

can a turbo be ran without a turbo timer? does it depend on the amount of boost you're running? i dont have any experience with turbos and wanted to know if one is necessary for driving around town.

Talking Yeah

I'll try to answer as many of these as I possibly can. Yes i turbo can be ran without a turbo timmer you just don't have that extra time advantage for teh turbo to cool. And no as far as I know it doens't depend on the amount of turbo your running....I may be worng I'm jsut saying from WHAT I KNOW AS OF NOW.....Anyways can't blame you for asking alot of questions atleast your asking them first instead of acting first then asking qustions:frog: :frog:

Im not quite sure you understand what a tubo timer does.
All it does is leave the engine running for a amount of time (calculated by a computer) after you pull the key.
It does this because the turbo is oil cooled or oil lubricated, and if you turn off the engine whith the oil really hot inside it cooks in the turbo and in the oil lines. this is bad for the turbo.

So to answer your question, Yes you can run without a turbo timer.
its probably not smart too if your not leting your engine cool before turning it off, and thus reducing the length of time your turbo can go before being rebuilt.

Hope this helps

ya i know what a turbo timer is for and does. i guess i made my question too vague. my question is does it need to be cooled after you drive around town. i know after a hard run where you were on the boost a lot it will need time to cool, but if its not driven hard, just around town to and from school where it is driven moderately, is a turbo timer necessary?
