swap?

heres the deal, i plan to buy a bare bones lancer evolution when i get into college since the air national guard will be giving me $400 a month. But my problem is i need more than 4 cylinders. sure it could be made quick but not on my budget. So my question is what kind of swaps could i do? right now im looking at a 20b 3-rotor sTT reman engine, or maybe (if they manufactre them in jap) a skyline vtec2 engine. what would work, be cost effective, and be easy to swap? thanks

^bump^

i found a website that sells skyline, supra, and other engines so its definently a possibility. But would an I-6 fit into the space of an evo, probably same engine size as a plain lancer? And could you even use a rotory?? thanks in advance.

Um, whats a vtec skyline?

And why the hell would you want to change the engine on a lancer? For what you'd pay to:

a) Purchase a new engine
b) Ship this engine to your door
c) Pay to have it installed

You could EASILY have a like 350-400rwhp 4 cyclinder lancer. Plus swapping in the bigger engine would mess with the lancers awesome weight distribution, severly decreasing it's handling.

If you really want to do an engine swap, i'd suggest either a GSR Lancer engine from japan, or a WRX Sti engine. Both are 4 cylinders, both are 2 liters, both are for relativly similar AWD cars. Plus the Sti is a flat 4.

well i meant the engine in the TT vtec2 skylines, im pretty sure it has vtec2 doesn't it? or did i misread that somewhere? also i was referring to the evolution not the ordinary lancer. But the engine is $5000 i dont know if that includes shipping but i'd do the swapping myself and i'd sell old engine. plus a solid twin turbo inline-6 would tear up a 4-c. But also the rotory would not mess up the balance, its displacement is extremely low due to the charactoristics of rotary.

It's probably an A-spec. Honda/Acura makes Vtech. Nissan Skyline GTR's came in A-Spec.

oh. maybe i did read wrong. is it the same concept though? with the different camshafts and what not as vtec uses? I'm just curious...

but back on topic what swap would give the car some meat and be worthy/possible?

I think that 20b would be the best but i think rotary cars are setup differently so it may not fit correctly. I say it'd be the best because it would weigh less, less moving parts, revs higher, superior engine design, and its design is excellant for twin turbo setup (which it comes with). Plus its alot cheaper than the skyline engine (to import it etc).

any other opinions thoughts suggestions?

i think bryan meant v-spec II. well the v-spec I and II runs on the same engine. its just theres better suspension and better aero kits and more carbon fiber in the v spec II.

Dude i think it'll be soooo hard to swap because...

Lancer

Skyline

You see now? They're facing other directions... Lancer has transversal engine mounting and skyline or supra have lengthwise engine mounting.. The stock lancer engine is a wonderful thing.. at least the evolution engine... It's a 4 cylinder but it's more powerful than many V8s...

Exactly my point Tom

what are you planning on using this car for? because it would be kind of dumb to use it as a drag machine. For what it'll cost you you could easily buy say a supra or 300Z or even better a corvette or something, and make it much faster.

If your planning on using it as a car for autocross and cornering, then you don't want anymore then 400WHP, and that is very easy to get form the lancers engine. Hell, they come with almost 300 stock. Upgrade the turbo, intercooler, intake, exhaust, headers, port and polish, etc... and it will hit 400 no problem. Could easyily go higher. 500 and 600HP lancers aren't that rare. But you don't want that much power anyways as it would really mess with the AWD system.
