Swap this Swap that.....
o.k. after contemplating the building of my SOHC i've decided it would be more economical just to swap it out. I am a big numbers kind of guy... i would like to be able to put it on some of the import haters around me. I am intrigued by the cr-vtec. only i dont particularly want to mess with it. I also really like the H22A, only thing understeer thing isn't so cool. I hadn't heard about that until this tech board. How bad is it and can it be fixed. I have a 97 ex coupe by the way. So if you have experience with swaps be it b16 b18 b20 h22a ......lets hear about it. hopefully you can help us unexperienced guys make some informed decisions. I myself am particularly interested in the H22A swap

oh yeah, is there any way to retain the power steering? I've heard that you can't have PS or AC. I live in texas and A/C is a nice thing but im sure i might be able to part. what would be the next best to the H22 w/o doing a frankenstein

I think the best way to go if your looking to swap is probably b18c5 (Type-R engine), this way you won't have to give any of that stuff up, but if your really set on getting an H22a, good luck.

I'm sure you've read ----> THIS <---- before, right?
As for AC, the problem with the AC is that the H22 has the compressor right in the position where the civic condensor is (You know the radiator lookin thing next to the actual radiator). So you'd have to relocate the AC pump to another location in the engine WHILE still having it run off the serpentine belt. This is an extremely hard thing to do. And power steering has a more serious problem that I can't quite remember at the moment. I believe there is a cross member or part of the chasis that would need to be notched or cut away to fit the power steering pump (Or relocate it somewhere else again) while again having it run off the serpentine belts. The whole problem is the fact that they need to run off the belts. If they didn't have to be or you can ingeniously create a belt system driven off something else, then you could do it. There are other things that need to be moved around to get it to fit as well, like the fuel filter, but it's just a process of unbolting and relocating.

But like buh_buh said, if you really want the H22a then go for it. I've seen it be done before.

no, i hadn't read that yet....when i tried to load it, it wouldn't open. Money...heheheh......what a funny subject.....this probably isn't anything gonna happen in the near future....I'm just trying to get ideas. I was planning on building an all motor SOHC....but i figured that a swap is the wiser thing to do.
