I am planning on selling my old 91 eclipse and entering the world of Honda. i was eyeballing the new civic Si and was wondering, is it worth it, or should i just look for say a 2000 civic Si? i want to street supe it and make it as fast as possible. please tell me which is my choice car.

Your in the best position possible -- starting fresh. If I could do it all over again, I sure as hell wouldnt' have bought my '00 Si. Don't get me wrong, they are awesome cars, but their not for me. I'm more of a project car type of guy and the '00 Si is too refined from the factory.

As far as the '02 Si, there is going to be a huge amount of aftermarket parts available soon... some of which are already available. If you get a '00 Si, you can throw some DC5 ITR cams in there and bolt in an additional 12whp. I personally like them and think they have a lot of potential, but again, their not my thing -- too refined.

You have to ask yourself, do you want a good mixture between options, luxuries, and speed or do you want a project car to make as fast as possible? If you want a good mixture, look at a '00 Si or a '02 Si... if you want a project car, look into 92-95 civic hatches or something light and easy to work on like them.

Hope this helps.

I test drove the new Si and it didn't impress me at all. I couldn't even feel the VTEC in it like I can in my 99. Personally I would stick with the 99-00 Civic Si if it was me. And like SI2000 said it is best to start with a clean fresh car so you know exactly what is going into it and what is on your car. I hate seeing people buy a car already fixed up and start claiming they are a big import person caue their car already had Nitrous or Turbo but they don't even know what it is. Maybe someone on here has already bought an 02 Si and can say a little better things about it than me but personally I didn't care for it as far as a stock car. Maybe with an intake, exhaust and header is will haul but stock didn't impress me.

I believe thats because its a three stage Vtec or something like that, so you're always running it...never driven DOHC Vtec but I would assume three stage takes some of the fun out of it.

Your absolutely right... I-VTEC has a much smoother powerband and is much more efficient than the past version of VTEC. With your normal VTEC B16, you have what some would call "single-stage VTEC" and that's simply the low-to-hi cam crossover point. But on B18C1's, they actually had "dual-stage VTEC" with secondary butterflies in the intake manifold opening up at 4800 RPM's. (Maybe 4500, can't remember).

But with I-VTEC, you have the GSR's technology (low-hi cam + variable intake manifold stack lengths) coupled the new continuously variable camshaft timing, which varies the amount of valve overlap throughout your powerband. That's why I-VTEC's feel so much smoother and weaker than your average everyday VTEC engine. I personally prefer the old kick-in-the-ass low-hi cam feel rather than the smooth, mushy feel... but I can guarantee when aftermarket parts start churning up for I-VTEC engines, im sure my opinion is going to change. Also, JHP.com has ITR cams for any K-series motor availble... bolt-in 15hp for your 2002 Civic Si... I'm sure that'll make the low-hi cam crossover kick a little harder :silly2:

Hope this clears some stuff up.

I thought they would've made the new Si ballsier (is that even a word??) than the old si. (2000 si). Apparently it still lacks the torque to take it off the line, and they made the mistake of turning back into a hatch. in my opinion, it's better to get a 2k2 coupe EX, and with the money you save not getting an Si, you could put toward some forced induction.

Or, save up some more and get an RSX type S

I wouldnt recommend it

For the same price you can get the following

Sentra SE-R SpecV
Neon SRT-4
MazdaSpeed 3

the first 2 will beat it out in a race and the mazdaspeed car comes turbocharged and will allow for some nice turbo tuning.

I'd also recommend saving longer and picking up an RSX TypeS or a Celica GT-S.

i was at the local dealership saturday and was amazed at what i saw. Not only two civic si's but four. Salesman said they are saling them like, wait they havent sold any yet. Lot of new products coming out from Honda, think i would wait for the new accord v6 when they sale it with the 6spd next year.

Think the RSX looks and rides better.

I just got the si and it was gut less at first. The k20 engin has to break in to get the full power. after i got a grand on the engine it had all the power in the world. once the engine is broke in you can feel the v-tec kick in around 4gs. in my opinion it is well worth it. :flash:
