how to: weld lines

Lots of you have asked how I did the weld lines on the '31 Ford I built. Heres how I did it. I would like to take credit for this idea but I can't. Robrex gave me the idea. Here goes.

Here's what you need to make the welds. Be careful with the Liquid Nails, this stuff is pretty messy and when dry, it is rock hard. The hypodermic needle I used is pretty small, the bigger needles will give you a thicker line.

Fill the needle with the Liquid Nail and squirt it out where you want the weld. Move the needle slowly as you go making the bead. A back and forth motion works for me.It should look like this.

After a few hours I primed the surface.

Airbrush the weld line with a natural metal. I used Testors Metalizer aluminum.

Give the weld and surrounding area a heavy black wash. The weld itself should get a VERY heavy wash of black. Let this dry.

The last step is to pick out the very top of the weld with silver paint and a tiny brush.
Thats it.

Great tutorial Charles! thanks for the recognition too!

I like the wash and highlighting technique that you have added. The finished weld looks very convincing!

Looks really great, but I have one quick question....

Where did you get the syringe?

I am thinking I need to give this a shot on a project I have been working on for a while.

Thanks for the help, and great explanation...
