Angry ecu problems(lil' help please)

I hate to pester you all with ecu questions because I know they get posted a lot, but I don't know what to do?
Here's my situation. I drive a 97 maxima and I have been running the stillen intake and stillen y-pipen and catback for a year with no problemos. Recently, my "check engine light" came on and I didn't think much of it.
I've read all the tips on checking the ecu with the four digit flashing code and I also know how to reset it.
Yesterday, my car started running really funny so I then became really concerned with the check engine light. When I was driving my car it was lirching back and forth at certain rpm points and it didn't seem to know when to shift(auto tranny). When I really put my foot into the gas, it would not respond in the normal fashion. It was really hard to drive to say the least.(very hard to explain).
So I took it into a Nissan dealer. THey hooked up the computer to it and said their was a problem with my o2 sensor(dont know which) and temp sensor?( I should really just go get the code myself so it would be easier for you guys to help me out). The mechanic then says to me, that "I am not getting proper air flow with my after market intake modification and that he suggests I take it off and put the factory box back on"??!! He said the car is running too rich/lein because of it and is pinging like crazy(which it was) and could really damage my pistons.
Now, I know what the the normal pinging sounds like (can of bees, whatever)from the y-pipe because it has done that for about a year.
I'm am all ears to any suggestions because I'm not really liking the idea of removing my exhaust mods when I know a ton of maxima owners out there are running the same thing. So ANY advice would be much appreciated. THanks,

A bad O2 sensor could concievably make your car run funny, though I don't think the intake is making a difference. Like you said, ton's of max owners run the same thing. The only way you would be running lean is a fuel pressure regulator problem. The VQ30 detects detonation and pinging, so you would also be getting decreased performance when the ECU retarded timing. IMO, the intake and exhaust is not an issue here. I run a CAI, Y-pipe, and exhaust with NOS, and I am not running lean at any time. Replace the O2 sensor, check out this temp sensor, and be on your merry way, don't let the mechanic screw ya! Good luck.

Re: Damn check engine light

It should be covered. Call up your dealer and find out. Otherwise, it's about $80 for a new one. good luck

Thanx

Thanx. Yesterday I met a guy who drives a 300ZX Twinturbo with 2 bottles (250) of NOS and he does a 1/4 mile in 9 seconds. Isn't it fu**ing amazing ???? His car is soooooo sweeet. He got the sound , the HP and the handling . Too bad I don't have my parents giving me that kind of money. Oh well.
