1998 Trooper Idle Problem(Please help please)

Hello all I have a 98 Trooper, I had the trucked scanned and I was told to change the TPS. The car holds at 1700 rpm and the jumps up to 3000 after a couple seconds. When I unplug the MAF it just sits at 1700 rpm. I changed all of the intake gaskets and there are no leaks. What could it be other than the MAF going bad, all trouble codes point towrd the MAF, I just want to be sure before I go out and by one. please help and give me any information that can help. I would greatly appreciate it.
