Unhappy Oh noes, its RITA!

So Hurricane Rita is going to hit Texas, especially Houston and Galveston. What are you modelers in Texas going to do?

ME: I might go to Waco since I live Houston.

edit: Might have to pick me up some Walthers!

Dude, if you're going to get a gun, get a S&W 44 Magnum.

Since I'm in the Dallas area, I won't really be effected except for the humidity which throws off my spraying.

S&W imports Walthers and they are famous for making high quality guns such as Hitlers PPK and James Bond's P99, also the 44 costs a lot.

Re: Oh noes, its RITA!

Grr. That'll throw off my whole schedule of doing nothing. But at the current strength, I doubt it'll be able to make it inland that far.

D_Lamz, where in Houston do you live and how long have you lived there? Unless you live near Galveston, near the ship channel, or next/near the many bayous throughout Harris county, floods should not be a factor, which is typically the most damaging part of these storms. If you made it through tropical storm Allison when the city was crippled from the flooding, you should be fine now. It can't hurt to be prepared, but I've heard people going nuts in Houston, hoarding everything in sight. It's not like we live in a bowl like New Orleans. No one I know is leaving, and I wouldn't leave if I were in town.

What? A Texan who doesn't own a gun? Didn't know they existed. Besides if discouraging looters is your reason for getting a gun, get a shotgun, or if you're really nuts, grab an assault rifle.

Re: Oh noes, its RITA!

Damn straight, the DFW gun store has all types of weapons on sale. To bad my mom doesn't want any more guns in the house. We have my grandfathers WWII pistol, and that's it.

I live in the Cy-Fair area in North West Houston right by W. Littleyork and beltway 8 and I have lived in Houston all my life. Yeah, I dont have any guns but my uncle who lives across the road has a .308 bolt action and other various hunting rifles but no assault rifles.

Hmm, how close are you to that bayou right there at Jersey Village? I forgot what it was called, just north of 290 and Jones Rd. Runs up past Eldridge and 1960. That bayou overflowed bad during tropical storm Allison. Many streets and houses around there were flooded.

Guess its's a waiting game now. Sucks, too. I was going to fly in this weekend, but now, I can't.

Re: Oh noes, its RITA!

Ouch, Harris county is exactly where I live, but my place isn't in any of those severe flood areas, so I hope it won't be a problem.

Anyhow, my wife's cousin is giving us a ride, we'll take a short trip to Dallas. I don't care much about model kits, but I hope I won't lose any of my reference books and magazines I have collected over several decades.

I do miss a safe city like Tokyo though. Even if a major typhoon hits the city, you'll never need a gun to protect yourself.

Storm just keeps getting worse. Hiro is leaving, and a few of my other friends have decide to hang out with family/friends in Dallas as well. My brother is the only family member in town, and he's stocked up and ready. I'm a bit concerned about my house, going to have to call the tenants, see how they're doing. The winds will be the biggest problem, as we have lots of trees. Our area doesn't flood easily, so it'll take a lot (more than Allison). Just hope the trees don't fall on the house or my car.

Re: Oh noes, its RITA!

Im in NE texas. about 60 miles NE of Dallas. However, my younger brother is down in Livingston about an hour from Houston. We have been trying to tell him it isn't worth staying and he needs to get the heck out of dodge. He can't seem to talk his girlfriend into leaving. They MIGHT leave today. I was like, you can replace your home and your job. You cannot replace your life or your wife's or son's. She just doesn't see things from a realistic point of view. She is staying so she can make more money.....As for the being loaded for bear and ready for someone to try and break into your home. I currently do not own a gun. But a buddy of mine is ready for armageddon. lol. he's got 4 pistols and about 7 rifles/shot guns. im working on buying his .380 pistol and 9 mm rifle. I'm definately getting one or the other....75 bucks!! lol. I'd prefer the rifle since it is capable of having a flashlight/laser pointer device on the barrel....tactical type stuff. But the hand gun would be more concealable........my thoughts and prayers go out to all of those along the Texas coast.

Re: Oh noes, its RITA!

Looks like I'm stay in NW Houston because of all the damn traffic and overreacting of the people. But luckly the storm is slowly moving towards LA every hour.
Goodluck guys.
