E-Bay pet peeves..

Why do sellers list items on ebay, especially kits, with the wrong information? This seller listed a Nissan R390GT1 as 1/20 scale and "very RARE", with a $30 starting bid. I sent him a message correcting him that it is 1/24. He replies back restating that it "IS" a 1/20 scale kit. Argh!
Here is the link.

R390

Re: E-Bay pet peeves..

Because they aren't builders so don't understand what they have?
Because they're trusting on the ignorance of others to make money for them?

Re: E-Bay pet peeves..

It's so rare that even Tamiya didn't know they make the 1/20 version...
IIRC, it says it's 1/24 scale right on top of the box. They guy has a pretty good rating so I don't know why he is been just an a$$...

somebody coming and outbid u with 5 seconds left, that is not fair - i know most make a bid around 30 seconds left, never mind 5

ive heard from an ebay member saying that hes using software called Auction Sniper, now thats not on is it? ive emailed ebay regarding this, is it allowed or is it illegal, so hopefully get an answer soon

ebay snipers piss me off. its a program that bids for you within seconds of the auction closing. happened to me many times. thats why i like to stick to the "buy it now" feature.

Boo hoo, a sniper won it... Please explain rationally why sniping is unfair and shouldn't be allowed. I bet you can't..

Just bid what you are prepared to pay, if you get outbid move on and be happy that you didn't over spend.

thats my philosophy. only bid as much as your willing to pay, and if it gets out bid, let someone else pay too much. either that or, like me, try and find things with the buy it now feature.

That's EXACTLY the same ebay philosophy I live by. Some items I have been after went for crazy money then two weeks later I get the same kit half the orice of the previous auction. It pays to be patient, a virtue we know only too well in this hobby.

P.S. on another note; still haven't got the guts to clean my focus!!! (check "The Carwash")

Sniper bidders will always be around. I set my limits to around £10 sometimes no more then £15 a kit.. I always NEVER bid on models with postage past £3.50. Anymore, and they are certainly ripping you off...

I think auto bidders are ufair, but I once brought a Tamiya Merc 500SL AMG. I paid £7.50 for it months ago.. I saw another one go for £55..!!! Totally nuts, and I noticed that the person who got it was an AMG nut.. Always bidding for AMG goods.

Next week, yep another AMG.. Went for £15..!! He well over paid, and tough luck if you ask me..

eBay is good for getting OOP models, and getting models at a good price. I've had some real bargains... £3.20 for a merc SLK was my best, but £4 for a Honda S2000 was superb..!! Both have been built by me recently and I've enjoyed building them..

I'm building a Honda RA 272 at the moment, eBay purchase again paid £7.50 for the kit + £2.50 postage.. Modelsinmotion wanted £24 for that kit...

Just be smart and dont bid anymore then you have to.. You get it eventually..!! Stinky Fingers has his head screwed on..!!

Re: E-Bay pet peeves..

I don't understand why auto bidders are "unfair"

You bid up to your maximum budget. If it goes for more, you don't win the item and it doesn't matter because it was over your budget. If you win then as long as nobody else has tried to beat your bid you will get it at a bargain price. If they HAVE then it was still under your budget or you wouldn't have bid that high.

I see something I like, bid the most I'm prepared to pay, and move on and forget about it until I get an email telling me I have won or otherwise. Apparently this is bad - it "pushes the price up too early" which is nonsensical, because whether the auction ends in 10 days or 10 seconds, my maximum bid is my maximum bid!

It all comes down to who has the most money or bigger budget that will win... But if someone is stupid enough to enter a bidding war and pay twice or even three times the worth, then so be it..!! I won't be the one doing it though..

I've lost many auctions due to not re-bidding once my max bid is reached... Mostly because someone else has more money then me.. Way of the world I think.. More money, better chances..!!
