I am burning rich

I did a fuel Injection cleaning on my civic dx last weekend and now I am blowing black smoke and running rich. I used a professional cleaning kit not additive stuff if that helps. Any suggestions on how to remedy the problem ?

did you disconnect and plug the fuel return line (to the gas tank)? Remember to reconnect it afterwards?

I diconected fuel pump and gas line and the car ran off this aerosol cleaner for about 12-16 mins and then after that unplugged fuse on ecu and remapped fuel and ignition curves. it still runs but really rich, i got like carbon splats on the back of my car.

what do you mean when you say you remapped the fuel and ignition curves? Are you using an aftermarket injection/timing control?

Very interesting, so the cleaning process is running the engine with aerosol cleaner only (no fuel)? How is this possible?

Anyway, it sounds like the computer "block learn" had set a very rich setting since it was running on the cleaner for a while, but you said you have reset the computer and that should fix the problem. May be you didn't disconnet the fuse long enough (usually 10 seconds will do it already). Try resetting the ECU again and see what happen.

One thing just came to my mind, but I doubt it is the problem. Check your fuel pressure and see if it is too high.

Try to see if there is any code the ECU flash at you.

The best and fastest way to solve the problem would be connecting your ECU to a scanner and see what's going on in the ECU.

go ahead and check the fuel filter and air filter to see if they are dirty and need replacing or cleaning.

When was the last time you replaced o2 sensors?

Replaced O2 sensor about 2 months ago, and I did pull the fuse for the ecu for 10 mins after the car was warmed up and then started and let it idle for 5 mins. I did find today that there was a code in the computer and I have cleared it off. (It was for fuel injection system (code 16)) My mechanic said that it usually causes a code when you clean your injection system but didn't tell me when he lent me the fuel injection cleaning kit . If ODB I computers run in limp mode (im not sure if they do) maybe that was causeing the problem. Iam going to unplug ecu and the hasard fuse for 10mins and reset ecu to relearn the fuel and igitiion curves and see if that helps.

I did find today that there was a code in the computer and I have cleared it off.

That's what I thought, if you have reset the ECU after cleaning your injectors then there shouldn't be a code, except if that is an existing problem, then the code will just reappear no matter how many times you reset your ECU. Let us know you are able to clear the code without it reappearing (you might have to see if there is a "keep alive fuse" for the ECU, and if there is, you will have to pull that one also).

The correct procduce is to reset your ECU is:
1. Start your engine and wait until it idle at normal operating temperture
2. Turn off your engine
3. Pull out your ECU fuse and wait 10 seconds or more
4. Put the ECU fuse back
5. Start your engine and let it idle at normal operating temperture for about 5 minutes

guys i have the same problem with my Isuzu trooper 3.2L, it is burning really rich and i dont know what to do about it.
I am some where in Africa where it is not easy to get these tools you guys are talking about.
I dont have any error codes on my ECU, that is whats baffling me.
Where could the problem me?

O2 sensors is my first guess. It determines warm operation fuel mix. If its running rich because of O2 sensors, it won't give a code because it thinks its operating properly. The same O2 sensors that tell the engine how much fuel to inject are the same sensors that tell the computer if the mix is right.
