powerstroke burns rich during warm up

in 03 i bought a 97 powerstroke with 100k miles on it. I don't drive it much, but a few months after i bought it i noticed it burning really rich while warming up. The worst was when I was at 8000 feet and the temp was probably below 0 degrees. I had to shut it off to load my ice fishing gear, the damn thing will choke you out and burn your eyes. I thought i detected a problem with the MAP sensor, so i replaced it with one from a junkyard. (is the MAP sensor and the BARO sensor the same sensor? --btw chilton sucks--?) The truck runs great, it seemed to run even better with the new (used) MAP sensor. But it still burns rich on warm up. it will burn rich for as long as it is idling and won't stop until i drive it and really get it warm. I only get 15 mph with the truck so it may be burning rich all the time and just isn't as noticeable when it is hot. Does this sound like a backpressure sensor problem? maybe it just isn't warming up fast enough. the temp gauge never really moves until i drive it. what else could be the culprit? btw the check engine light never comes on. Or does the powerstroke just do this commonly?

Re: powerstroke burns rich during warm up

You can get a grill cover to help the warming up problem. You see them on the big semi's all the time.
