The price on Tamiya's spraycans

Meh! The prices on Tamiya's spraycans here in Netherland seem sooo high to me! I bought one today, it was a matt black one, and it cost me 7 euros... which is $ 8,4 for the Americans.

Are they so expensive because they are so good? Okay, they are good, I admit that Tamiya's cans are the best I used so far. But is it really necessary to price them at 7 euros per can?

Maybe the cans are expensive because the EU has "trade barriers", which make products from Japan more expensive...

How are the prices in all your countries?

Re: The price on Tamiya's spraycans

I pay on $4.95 a can. That's here in north texas, so I don't know about every where else, but damn. I would hate to pay 8 bucks for a small can of paint that covers only two models.

Huh... I just did a yellow paint job with TS sprays and one wasn't enough.. Took two cans for the under chassis and body. Although I had to lay down around 10 coats in the end. Would hate to pay your prices, as I buy a lot of TS sprays..

And the the UK they are around £3.99 a can. Not cheap, not cheap at all..

So the cans are cheaper in other countries... seems so unfair to me.

In Holland, for example, when you want a bright blue paintjob and you use a silver undercoat... you'll need a quarter of a can of primer, half a can of silver and half a can of blue. Which comes down to 10 dollars for painting one model. If you need many paint to cover the model, like Mick pointed out, it's even worse!

edit: just read the above posts; 12$ in norway! Wow, way too much... and 20$ in Brazil... idiotic. They're out of their minds, it seems... why are those prices so ridiculously high?! Is it all because of environment protection taxes, or trade barriers?

Re: The price on Tamiya's spraycans

I just bought a can of plastikote clear and primer and spend just under 10.00 usd. I can prime and clear like 5 cars or more with this. I am in South Florida. Damn, that sucks how much you guys have to pay to paint a freakin car model!

Re: The price on Tamiya's spraycans

i would just get either Duplicolor or Plastikote if possible. they are both automotive paints. i haven't had any trouble with them. i use Duplicolor primer underneath the colors.

Re: The price on Tamiya's spraycans

This was explained to me by an R/C company when European members of their message boards complained about prices of their products (Which they have ZERO control over as they sell to a distributor who sells to Europe). Basically, transportation costs, currency exchange rates, and import taxes/tarrifs all affect the price of products in a particular country.

Even at $5 a can Tamiya paint is too expensive for my blood. I'm going to start airbrushing it to make it last longer. Especially for parts like roll cages.

I have no problem with the price. The quality is what you pay for.
