KA24 Engine rebuild...worth it?
Anyone here have experience with rebuilt engines? I have a close friend who wants to rebuild the motor on his S14. It has about 160k on it and he says it doesnt pull as strongly as it did when it was newer. However he has no knowledge of engine rebuilding, so he came to me with these questions (because I've owned a few 240s).
1. How much will it cost? 2. Where should I get it done? 3. What do they replace in a rebuild? Is this a good time to upgrade the internal engine parts? Is boring a good idea with this engine? 4. Anything else important I should know? Of course, having never replaced or rebuilt any of my engines, I had no answers for him. I was hoping someone here could help him (and me) out.

1. How much will it cost? Varies greatly, if you want to get it done right then I would suggest going with quality products and not go cheap on any of this. Also you will save yourself a great deal of money if you did all of the installs yourself. 2. Where should I get it done? If your not doing it yourself then look around your city for shops that are known for working on KA's. Most shops can work on the engine but some shops may specailize in nissan engines. Also I would go to a reputable shop and not some hole in the wall place just to save money. 3. What do they replace in a rebuild? Is this a good time to upgrade the internal engine parts? Is boring a good idea with this engine? They will replace whatever your buy and give them, such as Pistons, Valvesprings, Connecting Rods, Crankshaft, etc..... When your rebuilding the inside of the engine then you are replacing the engine internals. As for boring, you ever heard that phrase "There's no replacement for displacement"

I suggest Sun Belt racing...where Chris May had his motor rebuilt to hold 432HP on the KA24DET. They build strong ass engines...practically race engines almost...and I think if I had to...I'd do it...they are located in GA which is not far from you. Is it worth it? Hells yeah! How much? Just your right testicle...lol...it's gonna be at least over a 1k
