1994 f150 5.0 rebuild
I recently bought this truck used and there is now a constant knocking in the engine. I am going to pull the engine out this summer and have it bored and rebuild it. What parts should I buy new to replace old ones? 1994 5.0

You will not know the answer to that question until it is torn down and measured.

Re: 1994 f150 5.0 rebuild
From a practical standpoint, if you have a good local engine rebuilder that would probably be the way to go. If you want to the work yourself to learn about engines, I would buy some book(s) and read up first.
You will have to investigate the knocking when you tear the engine apart. For instance if it was a connecting rod bearing gone out, which I would quess, you'll have to replace that connecting rod as well as have the crankshaft journal turned down and an undersize bearing. They would measure all the crankshaft journals and maybe turn all the rest of them down .010(ten one-thousandths). You would need to take the heads to someone to have the valves ground, etc. Basically you need to replace the connecting rod bearings, main bearings, pistons and piston rings, and of course you'll need a gasket set. The gasket set is about the only thing you could order ahead of time. As way too old said you need to measure stuff first. Oh yeah the camshaft and cam bearings, you could order the camshaft ahead of time. You could have the camshaft bearings installed when you have the block rebored. You'll need new valve lifters also with a new camshaft. You'll also want to put in a new oil pump. Good luck with your project. |
