Question Does this sound right???

I have a friend who is telling me that he knows a guy who is selling an 1989 GT that is in mint condition and has 36000 miles on it for $1200. My friend is also telling me that his dad (who is a mechanic) has checked out the whole car and it's in perfect condition. Is it just me or does that sound a little too low??? He says the guy has been trying to sell it for three years and just keeps lowering the price. I think a car like that would sell very quickly. I think something is wrong with this picture. What does everyone else think about it???

Ah, yeah.

$1200, if its in good shape I would think it should pull at least twice that much. Go check it out, it might be one of those diamonds in the rough. Hell, I bought my Boss 302, Ccougar Eliminator for 2k. The engine alone is worth 5-6k.

If the car is how you describe it, and you don't buy it. Let me know, because I will. I doubt it is a GT though, that sounds like about the right price for a 4 cyl.

Well the car is like two hours from where I live. My dad has a friend who lives close to the car who is going to check the car out for me. I told him to test drive it, look everything over, and get the VIN # so I can run a carfax report on it. I'll let everyone know what's up.

There has to be either something wrong, its not what the owner claims, or someone doesnt know what its worth. Hopefully for you the latter.

Even if it has 336k and everything is worn out, though, its still probably worth $1200.

I got my 5-speed '89 GT with 148,000 miles for $2800, and THAT was a red-hot smokin deal, especially in southern California.

Well, it turns out that it was too good to be true. The kid who told me about the car was full of it. The car had 100,000 miles which isn't too bad but the paint and interior was bad and the engine sounded like it had rocks in it. Oh well.
