Does this sound right?

Whats up guys n gals,
I have a 2000 civic lx.....auto;-( with Cold Air Intake/Bomz Header/Exhaust

which is like 110hp if that.
My friend is a mechanic and tells me he can get my lil d16y7 motor to push around 270 hp if not 300 n/a no FI

What he would be doing is:
-Lighten crank
-new cam w/higher lift
-new performance valve springs
-port polish head
-performance torque convertor.

Is it possible or is he yankin my chain. I mean, if it's true i would jump on it in a sec but would like to hear from you peeps first.
Let me know what you guys think, any advice or info would be so much appreciated!

no chance with those mods to be pushin anywhere near 270hp, youd be lucky to even break 170hp with those mods.

Re: Does this sound right?

Its single cam, save the money and swap because in the end its really not worth it, you'll have props for having a quick d series but you wont be able to run with dual cam civics with the same or a little less work done so it just depends on what you plan to do.

whats to explain, there is just no way on earth, that with those mods will you be anywhere near 270-300hp, especially without forced induction.

No way you'll be pushing 270+hp in that motor.

Simply because, if i put those mods on my h22, not even I would be pushing that much. And i already have 200hp to boot.

Invest in a dohc b series swap, and shoot for a more realistic goal. Say, 180-200whp.

Good Luck.

Re: Does this sound right?

so how much hp would you think that i would get out of this job? He wants to charge me $1k....
does this sound reasonable? I was planning on turboing this but he said to do this performance tune-up before i turbo it. He would also be throwing in a Datsun 240z stock turbo with BOV.

Let me know what you guys think.

is he charging you 1k for everything? just parts? just labor?

1k seems pretty cheap for both.

Re: Does this sound right?

he's a good buddy of mine, and that price is for the complete job(parts, labor, and service)

also, he has guaranteed me that if he doesn't produce 250+ hp on the dyno, he will give me a full refund. I told him about what you all have said about this job and it makes him want to do it even more now just in spite of all of us doubting him.

Let me know what you guys think!

I still think a b series swap would be more worth your money.

although i do find it interesting that he still thinks that he'll be pushing 250+whp on a sohc n/a setup... he's really ripping himself off, as the parts ALONE, should come around the 1k he's charging you for everything.

Anyway, if you go through with this (which i recommend you don't), and he DOES find a way to push 250+whp n/a, i will spank his ass and call him captain.

Re: Does this sound right?

haha.........you crack me up Signal;-p so why would anyone go through with these mods if they are so expensive??
How much horsepower would you think this job would do.
He also said that he would be dyno tuning the motor as well.......if that gives you a better idea.

Re: Does this sound right?

if i were you.. i'd try and be there when he's doing the dyno tuning... or at least ask for a few of the sheets just to make sure he's not bsing you.... there's no doubt you'll feel a huge difference.. just make sure it's the difference you think it is with some hard numbers

Re: Does this sound right?

id love to see the results of a dyno run after this, and 1k seems way to cheap for all the parts he is giving you. i spent near $700 just for cams, and they only give you maybe 15-20hp at best. please get before and after dyno sheets. if this guy can get you 250HP on that sohc N/A, id give em my car.
