93 Civic EX engine into a Vtec

How hard would it be to turn a 93 Honda Civic EX 1.6L SOHC motor into a Vtec? And what all would I need and encounter? Thanks for any help.

hmm...

Well I thought so as well.. But according to Kellys Blue Book Vtec wasn't standard in the EX till '94. And was not offered in '93. The valve cover does not say Vtec. Or anywhere on the car. How else can one tell?

I own a 93 ex coupe, and it does have VTEC....when its completley stock you cannot HEAR VTEC kick in, but once you add an intake you can. But you have to look for the VTEC soleniod which is near the top left corner of the valve cover. I wish i Had close up pics of my engine bay to show ya, but since I'm back in college I can't get pics of it for ya...

Sorry I can't remember what the cap looks like for it..I think its a grayish top? I know someone else here can help ya out on specifically where it is.

Look on the engine, next to the transmission, it'll say D16Z6. thats the SOHC VTEC engine standard in ALL 92-95 EXs.

wow, you still got your timing belt cover on, i dont have mine on for like 5 years. But i think it will say it on there too. Otherwise just check by the exhaust manifold, it will be stamped into the engine block.

Thanks

THanks. I found the D16Z6 on both. I was curious about whether it was Vtec b/c I did not see anything saying it was. Thanks for the help. What would be the best mod to do for the car? Most bang for my buck so to speak.

Yes it does have SOHC Vtec. You can find the Vtec solenoid next to the distributor. It's a little round brass lookin thing. Best bang for the buck would definitly come from a Nitrous Oxide system. But most ppl just intake and exhuast.
