Question Supercharging 100,000 mile GS-R?

I was thinking lately of getting the Vortech Supercharger for my '94 Integra GS-R. The thing is that I just reached 100,000 miles on it. I don't drive it hard or anything and the car still runs pretty strong. I was wondering if it is okay for me to put in the Vortech Supercharger in a 100,000 mile GS-R. I really want to gain power and I will have this car for a long time so I want to make it fast in the long run. Will it run okay with the stock internals?

Also, do I need to buy or upgrade anything for my engine? I know most of you will say internals like pistons, rods, valves, etc. I'm just wondering if my engine can stand the Vortech SC with stock internals besides i/h/e. Thanks!

Yea 100,000 miles is baby for a Honda/Acura. It's only reached about half of it's life. You should be fine putting it on there, even with stock internals.

Why are you chosing a vortech supercharger over a a JSRC? The vortech makes nice peak hp but the curve sucks. Your power band will be very small. Stick to a JRSC. IHMO.

Well from what I have seen and heard, the Vortech Supercharger makes
more HP and torque overall from what a JRSC can make. Where did you hear about the curve of the Vortech Supercharger? Are there any graphs listed somewhere in the web?

what cracker said is true. vortech s/c's are known for their peakiness. it wont do much until the last second then the hp will jump way up. no good for street use. the jrsc may not peak as high, but it will give gains throughout the whole powerband.

Humm...I hear people telling me that Votech is better, and then I hear vice versa. How much better is this power curve that the JRSC has over the Vortech? Any sites around here that have dyno tests?

For a near-stock set-up, you will benefit more from a JRSC than a Vortech. The Vortech pays for itself when you start pushing at least 300 whp, for which you are going to need to rebuild your bottom end, unless you get some exceptionally good tuning and safe guarding. Below that level of power, I wouldn't get a Vortech, since it suffers from some terrible lag (think stock torque curve until 3,000 rpms, and nothing really exciting until 5,000 rpms).

In either case, you can put them on your stock engine (with the 100K miles), but I recommend that you get your compression checked first (if you have more than 5 to 10 tops psi of difference between any two cylinders, I would swap motors before supercharging), and I HIGHLY recommend that you devote the time and money toward getting your car dyno tuned after you do your install. You could seriously gain 20 horsepower at the wheels, and I'd be surprised if you didn't gain at least 10 whp. And remember that your engine will not stand abuse at that age as well as an engine with 30K to 40K miles (which is when a street motor is in its prime). I installed my JRSC at 112,500 miles, and it worked fine until I messed up and installed spark plugs that were a heat range too hot. Within a week, I had blown a valve seat. Be careful.

Ok, I have made a final decision. I am going with the Jackson Racing Supercharger!

My only concern is what else will I need to buy besides the JRSC kit? Is it necessary to upgrade my fuel pump? Do have to buy gauges or any of those fuel map sensor things? Also...can I stil run a stock setup on my engine if I upgrade to the 8 psi pulley set later on?

It is necessary to get the Walbro/JR 342 fuel pump with the charger system. And to go for 8 lbs., careful dyno tuning is a NECESSITY, and JR may recommend some additional precautions to minimze the risk of engine damage - call them (888-888-4079) and ask them about upgrading to 8 psi. But please, get dyno tuning when running any boost. So few people do, and I know I certainly wish I had
