mica blue question

Just a quick question i plan on painting my wrc subaru with tamiya mica blue, should i lay a coat of silver after white primer? Or is white primer enough to get a nice blue? Also what kind of silver should i lay down if i do?

Re: mica blue question

Wow, here's a question we've never seen asked here before

Just white primer will be fine, I've tried with and without the silver base coat and found it makes no real difference to the finish look.

Re: mica blue question

White primer will be fine. I think the Silver would make the color a litle bit darker (since Mica is a bit transparent)

This was a question I asked when building my Impreza WRC -

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=382882

I layed down a mist of grey to see where I needed to sand a little more to get the body smooth, and a coat of white primer (well two mists to keep it thin), then a coat of TS-17 and then I applied three mists of Mica Blue, and then two wet coats. Final coat was VERY wet, almost ran and the above link will show you what I got..!!

I didn't clear the decals, just used tamiya wax to buf the paint up after I applied the decals.

Most seem to say apply a coat of silver, others said not to bother.. I laid a coat of silver and liked the end result.. Not sure if it does make any change really.. Perhaps it doesn't, freakray seems to have tried it..!! Could just be a waste of paint..!!

Re: mica blue question

I put silver under my mica blue, but I paint it with airbrush. Nenad told me that tried with white undercoat and he wasn't satisfied with color after that.

Re: mica blue question

I would definitely recommend a silver base coat.

I just tried one auto color instead Mica blue and it looks fine, one more coat and it will be great. Under is silver color.
