Installing New Spark Plugs

Can anyone help me. I need to know how hard to tighten my new spark plugs. Im afraid that if I over tighten them I might end up making the gap to small?
Help appreciated

Red face Read the box!

There is a certain torque range you must follow, do not over tighten you won't mess up your gaping but you will "F" up your threads then you are screwed.

What I do is wait for engine to be cold very cold not luke warm, do you thing to do tune up.
When tighten it when you start feeling resistance tighten it up very gently like a little biatch don't over tighten you will f up the threads & will need to re-thread or replace valve cover.

Yeah! Do not over thighten it for the reason of it might get loose somehow. I used to tighten my plugs too much before and broke the ceramic body. Lucky enough that I was able to remove them. My old pal(senior citizen retired mechanic who works for BMW) gave me a lesson not to tighten my plugs anymore. So, take it easy! Tighten it and feel as if you could remove it without too much force. Better yet is to get yourself a torque wrench and follow the torque specification on the manual. Good Luck!

Depends on which ones you purchased. Anything other than NGK, can't help you out. Hopefully, you stuck with NGK's.

PFRB6-11 Platinum >>>> 0.039-0.044 (get as close to 0.044)
BKR6E Copper >>>>>>> 0.031-0.035 (get as close to 0.035)

Hey Yahnozha! What's up! I noticed that you have JWT POP & HS CAI?
How does it work? Do you use both or you converted your POP into CAI?
I got the JWT POP & I want to convert it into CAI. Please let me know how, where I could get the convertion kit, how much I could spend, and if I could do it on my G20t 94'.
Thanks!

Oh yeah? Does anyone of you use Bosch 2 or 4? I use Bosch 2 and I don't freakin' know what the hell is the feel difference from regular NGK Platinum. Would it make a difference if I use Bosch 4? What about Bosch Gold Tip? (Just kidding folks :hehehe: )

Stick with the NGK's! They are the best for the SR20's. It's been proven time and time again.

The only other plugs I've heard positively about are the Denso Iridiums, but not many are running them because they are pricier than the Platinum NGK's.

Don't waste time, money effort on the Bosch 4. Go buy a set of PFRB6-11's and call it a day. Or you can opt for the cheaper NGK V-Power Copper BKR6E's. They are a hell of lot cheaper, but they need replaced in half the time as the plats.

Actually the CAI term is really a mis-nomer. What I bought is the first sectoin of pipe that goes between the throttle valve and MAF. I havent installed that part yet because I have to find time to make an adapter to fit over the MAF to connect to the 3" pipe. OR just find a silicone sleve that tapers from 3" to what ever the diameter of the MAF is. I've been too lazy to do it yet.

Although, there is an adapter piece to fit a JWT POP to the whole CAI system that HS offers. I dont know if anyone has done it because *I think* the JWT POP is kinda large for the area that it goes into in the wheel well. I coud be wrong tho...try it, Im sure others will follow if it works...

You *NEED* a torque wrench. Its important so that the plug is at the right torque to make sure it will take the heat away from the cylinders. It also makes sure that the plug is in the correct position.

I suggest reading NGK's website on this, they have some great information.

One neat thing that I saw was that some racing engines actually use washers and set it up so the plug is facing a specific way in the cylinder for maximum effectiveness...wow

If you havent changed your plugs yet (which you probably already did) torque them down to 25-32 ft-lbs. And buy a good torque wrench. Do a search at www.craftsman.com for them. Youll want the click type that dials in with the correct setting.
