Octane Booster

I've seen a couple of references to HKS Octane Booster. Does anyone have much experience of using this. I can't remeber seeing it for sale in the UK. Does it have any effect?

One big difference in my R33 between 95 and 97 Octane fuel is how clean the emissions are (95 RON makes clouds of dirt come out of the exhaust). It runs way cleaner in 97.

Any comments?

P.S. No I don't run it on 95 RON, I was just using that as an example.

Thumbs up

I have been using HKS ADD-I booster for track purposes. Adding 500ml to a tankful of 97 ron fuel (50-55 litres), the engine runs much smoother and quieter. I can't feel any difference in top end power (it surely does not make my GTR faster) but the low end response is so good I am hooked! Drive at 2000rpm in 4th or 5th, then mash the pedal hard and the car just smoothly go to 8000rpm without complaining. Try doing that on normal fuel and the car would drag itself like a marathoner on an uphill run! At 7000-8000 rpm on the track, I could hang on to that rpm for a long time without the engine running out of breath or huffing and puffing. The expense would prevent me from using it everyday (USD 27 per 500ml bottle!) but for track days and high boost (1.02 bar) I would never do without! Try it, you will never regret it except for the fact that you would feel the engine is much louder/coarser and less responsive without it! That's a curse!

Does it give details on bottle?

So does the bottle give an equivalent RON fuel comparison of what the additive pushes the octane rating to (per tank). Have you tried ading it in smaller quantities (maybe your scared of no results, and at that price so would I be).

27usd sounds horrificly expensive. Add that to my tank of 97 RON and in the UK that would equal $98.40 per tank. Umm, maybe not!

)The bottle does not give any kind of info at all It only says :
use 500ml per 50 litres
don't add any other additive together with it
don't keep the ADD 1 in a hot place
That's it. They are bloody secretive I suppose. I had never used it in smaller quantities because at the track I really want the best for my engine (and also for my enjoyment). My HKS mechanic told me that I could use half the recommended amount for everyday usage but I never tried. For everyday usage, I use cheaper stuff with satisfactory result (as the HKS booster is really expensive).

There is no info on the bottle except:
- use 500ml per 50 litres of fuel
- do not use any other additive together with ADD 1
- do not store in a hot place

That's it. Bloody secretive these HKS people. I'd never tried using it in smaller quantities although my HKS mechanic did say that I could use half the recommended amount for everyday usage. On the track, I always pour the whole bottle as I want the best for and from my engine. For everyday usage, I use this concoction by my mechanic and they are satisfactory (it cost USD1 per litre - cheap and reasonably good result too).
I know it is expensive to use the ADD1 but I would suggest you try it once at the track. I think you would not regret!
