Cheap Mods
Can you guys tell me some mods I can do to my G20, its a 91 and I just wanna do some little stuff to it cuz i'm in kindof a pinch for money at the time...
I was just thinking about: Painting it black Tinting the Window's putting some foglights on the front and some see thru euro lights (if i can find any that will fit a G20) as you can see, these are all changes in the look, I dont know what the hell I can do to the rest of the car to make it go faster or sound better or anything, but can someone tell me please? and I need some stuff thats like uner $200 or $300. thanx everyone

if they tell you its more than $120, tell them you had been quoted $120. when i went to order mine, they tried to tell me it was $150, and i said.. "hmm...i thought it was $120" and then they said ok.. i can do that.. ![]() also look into advancing your timing... there is no part cost, only minor labor. this will give you some quickness off the line and a little power to boot... check out www.se-r.net for their article on it. |

Reduce the weight of the car. This is a "free" mod that gets you better cornering and acceleration/deceleration. Also, you can even make money by selling what you take off!
G20's are kinda heavy for their size, and reducing the weight is an easy way to make the sr20de less stressed.

yep.. ditching weight is a good idea...
about the g20 being heavy for it's size... its not THAT bad, especially a P10... it was only around 2500lbs even the p11 is only around 2900lbs which isnt bad concidering its 1.5" longer than a 4 door bmw 3 series, which with the smaller engine and 2wd is over 3200lbs |

2500 lbs without any of the shit. Its more like 2800-2900 lbs when you include all the crap like the sunroof, power stuff, and sound insulation, with gas, and other stuff. The primera's in europe were lighter, because most of the luxury crap that was standard in the US was optional and thus not included in the curb weight.

guess what... g20's arent the only cars that have optional sunroof's/power features and uhm... gas..
if you want to get technical like that then you can add 300lbs to ANY car, so it really holds no relevance, there is practically no car nowadays that comes with little to no amenities |

reducing the weight is probably your best "bang for the buck" since there's no need to spend any "buck"
my P11 doesnt have rear leather seats, trunk mat, spare tire...but since this is a street car, i left all the sound insulation stuff in and i need the passenger seat in cuz of my gf...hehe but unless u own a race car, u dont need to strip everything away...its kinda stupid actually if you took everyhting out such as AC, radio, sunroof..etc...at least in my opinion for a street car....but i guess i am contradicting myself cuz if you look at the interior of my car...it looks like it has been raided

Question! by putting on a pop charger or advance the timing, would that make the car less fuel efficient?

from my thinking, those should help fuel economy.
Should. let me explain my thinking.... advanced timing is done to get the spark to fire at the most opportune time for power output. So, theoretically, it shouldn't use more fuel, unless you go for it more. It should almost use less fuel, because you get more power with same position of the accelerator pedal. Or, you could use a little less throttle, for same performance. the POP Charger creates a better fuel/air mixture, thus you get more power out of each cylinder chamber load of mixture. So, this is the same as tweakin the timing: more power, same accelerator position. is this true guys?

Actually it's ALWAYS the case where you make more power you use more fuel. There are exception where you can lean out the mixture a bit to get more power but you have to be very careful doing that. Basically the general fuel + air = power applies. Add more fuel you need more air or else you'll be too rich and run like crap....add more air then you need more fuel or you'll be lean and melt your engine.
However the POP charger doesn't really make a tonne of power by itself so you won't notice any change in milage. That is unless you turn into a lead foot because of the nice new sound from under the hood.

Go for a good inlet filter etc and look at a good exhaust. About 2.5".
This is a good place to start.

the reason behind stating that options add weight is that when car companies list curb weights for cars they do not take into account options and have no gas (gas is heavy per gallon), and are usually done by trim level. So my car's curb weight is 2800 lbs or so, but in reality it is 2900 lbs, wet and on the road with options (i think there was only one for me). Base Curb weights are almost always a little on the low side of what cars are on the road in real life.
Sunroofs add decent amount of weight because it includes a motor, gears, tracks, stiffening up of the roof, and the glass weighs a large percentage more than the sheet metal it replaces. In the end, it could add 100 pounds or more. Front seats are the best way to lose weight on the interior. If you can remove your front seats (must weigh AT LEAST 40lbs each), sell them for 400 a piece (so 800 total), you can then spend that 800 or slightly more on a set of momo or sparco street seats and save a ton of weight, in the middle of the car. But if you do chose to shave weight, its a good idea to do it across the board: as in take some off the front and the rear, so you dont upset the balance too much. Of course this wont be an issue unless you state taking off a ton of weight
