Unhappy 86 325es idle problems

my cars idle surges from 700 to 2000 rpm after reaching normal operating temprature. The TPS is good. The O2 sensor is questionable but working. I can't find a vacuum leak. Does anybody have any ideas from a similar problem or should I set the car on fire? :o)

This sounds like the exact symptoms of when your idle control valve is not working. Either the valve is stuck open or the idle control module is not working. The best way to check is turn the key to run but do not start. Put your hand on the idle control valve. It should be buzzing. If not, check for twelve volts at the top wire of the connector, it that is good the problem is most likely the valve, otherwise it may be the idle control module.
