1) Unlike some of the other cars you own (probably) this system uses external amps to power the speakers. WHen you are doing the harness, you have to wire the power amp wire from the car side of the harness in with the power wire. If you don't do this, the radio will work, but no sound will come out because the amps don't get turned on.

2) Also, since there are external amps, and a non amplified signal comes out of the stock unit, when you get an aftermarket head unit, the signal is amplified once, (coming out of the unit) and again (at the stock amps) so if you get a regular harness, you might get a bit of distortion because the signal was amplified so much.

since you said the deck you want to put it puts more power than the stock amps, just rewire new wire to all the speakers, and remove the amps, that way you wont have to get a special harness.

I just meant the deck....

the deck i have is a better and higher output deck than the stock one...I just dont want to pay $40 to have it installed...The harness should be like $15???? I would prefer to keep the amps hooked up to the rear speakers.....Any other suggestions?

Well, are you some crazy audiophile? I mean, are you the kind of person, where everything has to sound perfect? Or do you just want to hear your music? The reason I say that, is because if you keep the stock amps, and just use a regular 15 dollar nissan harness, you will hear a tiny bit of distortion. The stock unit sent out an unamplified signal to the stock amps, where it was amplified and sent to the speakers. With your aftermarket deck, it sends out an amplified signal to the stock amps, where it is amplified again, and thats where the little bit of distortion comes from... Some of the audiophiles in here take off all their panels, to run speaker wires directly to the speakers, there by bypassing the stock amps. But unless you are crazy about your sounds, leaving the stock amps, THe noise won't bother you that much.

And my other suggestion would be to get new speakers. because with all the wattage running to them from the new deck and the stock amps, you'll prolly blow the stock speakers pretty soon.

All I want is a CD player...The stock system is set up fine for me...

How MUCH distortion are we talking about here? Is is a fuzz sound? Is it noticable? Should I just look for an Infiniti CD player?

Its like, you know when you have your system on, and you turn the volume all the way up, and you hear a little buzzing noise. You don't barely notice it at all when you are playing a CD. you basically just hear a little buzz inbwteen songs in that 1 second of silence. and if you have the volume lower, you don't hear anything.

All the superduper audiofreaks told me to do all this crazy shit when I put in my new HU. There is NO need for any of it. I bought the antenna adapter and the new wiring harness and (like Swonder said) there is a little bit of buzz between tracks on a CD but when there is actual sound running, it isn't really noticable. The install itself is SUPER easy--heck, I did it!!! :silly2: If you have wire connectors and a crimper, I'd say to save the dough and DIY.
