Kinda bored

Got kind of bored today and did something that I've been planning on doing for a while. I've had my valvecover powder coated. I've always wanted to have the raised lettering stand out. At saltfest Geo gave me a technique for doing it that seemed pretty easy...so I did it today. Here's the result. Not bad but the 'Infiniti' symbol was a little tough to get at with my files. I like it! :flash:

Nice.
The blue will look great against the black of your car.

Of course I'll share the technique!

First off you have to get your VC powdercoated. Where you find a place to do that is up to you. I had a hard enough time finding a local place in Toronto to do it for me.

You need metal files after that. I have a flat file and a triangle file. Pull out the plug wires and put a rag in the plug 'valley'. Put masking tape on any areas you don't want to scratch. At first I put tape on the raised lettering but it kept gumming up the files so I took it off and put the tape above and below the lettering. The lettering is raised so it pretty easy to just file the tops down to the aluminum..the tape is there incase you slip or put too much angle on the file. Just take your time and it should turn out OK.
