to bore or not to bore
My question to all the dsm gurus out there is wether or not boreing the engine to a 2.3L is worth it on a turbo engine, i have some work done so far turbo back exhaust, boost control, flywheel and clutch and it seems i have a bad head gasket so I am leaking coolant, i though as long as im pullin the head off, instead of doin turbo work, mite as well get the motor redone

ok so ur sayin go with a new motor all 2gether, but will the new 2.4L shortblock now be able to handle as much boost? if not what would be better little extra displacement or stock motor with more boost

Re: to bore or not to bore
I always hear my buddies talking about boring like .2 over because it makes the turbo spool faster. If you want some names of guys who are good with this stuff let me know and I can get some to you.

ok now it all depends on who is doin the work, i know you said that you had a bad head gasket, now are you removing everything yourself, if so then i would just bore the block and if you want to make it a 2.4, get a stroker kit, thats what my plans are for my winter project... plus i do believe that they dont swap easily, meaning modifications are needed. also it will be cheaper to do the bore and stroker kit instead of buying a 2.4 and puting it in the car! as of right now my block is bored .020 over and i have no problem reaching boost and holding it at 21psi, even on a 420a!!! good luck, let me know if there are anymore questions that i can help you with.

ya that would be great to get the names and numbers of any guys who are good with this kinda stuff, especially if theyre in the chicago area, also i just wanna make sure i know wut im doin, so bore out the motor .020" and get the stroker kit and im in business, this will make for quicker spool and little more displacement power, still run as much boost as i want, but it could get risky when im running really high boost, all for a grand price of round 3 grand would u say? i was also thinking of converting to a 6 bolt crank and all that

You need a 6 bolt block to go to the 6 bolt creank. If you are going to do a 6 bolt swap, its not much more work to do the 2.4 lite swap at the same time. If you cant find one, or just want to convert to a 2.3, just get the 2.4 crank, eagle or other 6 bolt rods, and ross or weisco stroker pistons (pin is moved up 6mm). Boring out the block doesnt do much for displacement. It should only be done to get the cylinders round again, and to get a good ring seal (the whole point of a rebuild). But for what its worth, a 2.0 and 2.4 use the same casting, and the bore is .040 over the 2 liter bore and the 2.4 still runs 9s in marcos car.
And poeple usually bore the 2.4 another 20 over in the build up.
