Question Car's being weird + Check engine light just came on.

First of all:
Twice now I have started up the car and released the parking brake but the light stays on as does the oil pressure light next to it. As soon as I start driving forward the lights go off. If I drive in reverse the lights would stay on. Why?

and then...
Today on the way to work the check engine light came on halfway thru the drive. Do you think it'll be a problem if I continue to drive it until Saturday? (On Sat. I have to go back to the dealer to sign a bunch'o papers and I am making them check everything then.)
