Supercharged 97 Lude Expectations..

I am planning on going with the Jackson SC on my 97 SH Prelude.

I was wondering what king of 1/4 mile times should I expect to get when running completely stock with the SC, and times with Headers/Intake/exhaust.

thanks.

with those mods and a good launch, it's very possible to hit the high 13's. without mods, maybe very low 14's at best. an i/h/e setup is very beneficial for JRSC preludes exclusively. go to the jackson racing site and they'll tell you the same exact thing.

Hrm.

Not bad times. I expected it to be around that. The gains shown on the JR site shows excellent HP gains with h/i/e and I was surprised as to just how much they were.

Are there any serious downfalls I may want to consider before carrying out my decision to purchase the SC?

And...are there any mods that I should do before bolting it on?

my friend had a JR S/C on his car. And he was not happy with it at all. He ran into a lot of problems with his fuel management, and his tech said the only way he can fix it was to either get rid of it, or spend $2500CDN to get Hondata. He also said he wasn't that happy with the gains, and with the money he spent on it, he would've rather gotten a turbo.

wow

From the web page it seemed as if the JRSC was very reliable and fairly problem free. I mean, it has a 3 year warranty....and I thought SCs were much more reliable than turbos are anyway.

Anybody else have any bad SC stories for me?

Well, I think with a properly tuned turbo, it can be just as reliable as a SC. But its more of a personal preference. SC is awesome for lower end torque, and turbo takes time to spool so you won't get boost until mid-high rpm range. With a JR SC you can boost up to a maximum of 6psi. With a turbo, you can boost to much higher levels (if your engine is built up properly)

well like we've discussed, intake, header and exhaust. you should also look into getting the apexi VTEC-AFC controller, and a fuel pressure gauge so you can adjust the fuel pressure. the charger is designed to run on stock internals so you dont' need to replace anything of that nature. so far i'm satisfied with my choice for FI. i did seriously think about turbo. that is better if you do a lot of racing. but for daily driver purposes, i think the s/c is better. some people will tell you that with a turbo you're not boosting all the time so therefore it's more ideal. but with the jrsc, there's a bypass valve that makes you run without boost during idle and normal driving speeds. only when you give it more gas does the boost come in. there was a problem with the s/c for the type sh dealing with oil leaks, but since then jackson racing has correctd the problem as far as i know.

the turbo is definately more tunable than the s/c. unfortunately jackson racing only makes a boost upgrade kit for the civic.
