Forward Thinking

I personnaly like the concept. Sure it take queues from other cars like the Porche (Center Exhaust), Celica GT (Swept back Light Cluster), Audi TT (Accented geometric fender flairs), but it also has distinct Z dna. Look at the roof line and the c piller, you will see the Z32. One must remember that this is a concept which is really a design study. Obvesly the basic shape will make it to market but the exagerated queues will most likely not. It is a very good palett to begin with.

The concept that you're describing(2001 Z Concept) is actually a "production prototype" as Nissan calls it, not just a design study. It's very close to what the production Z will be like. The 1999 Z Concept was somewhat of a design study, though Nissan's primary reason for showing the car off was to see if there was interest for a new Z car in the U.S. market.

Design Concept / PreProduction

You are right on several accounts about this car being what Nissan will produce. It is still a design study, as concept cars have exaggerated design details for flash. This aids in getting a reaction for public opinion on what they think about specific aspects of the design. Concept cars are designed to gauge the market and see how the public reacts to its design. In this case Nissan went with some exaggerated features too see what the public likes and dislikes and then made a final decision. What you see in basic form will make it to production. The center exhaust, flared fenders, and turn signals on the mirrors will go away for production. With the exhaust pushed out to the sides like the S2000, the fenders less flared, and the turn signals in the normal position. The exaggerated front opening will be smaller with softer edges. Either way, I'm sure the Z will look very similar to the show car and will be a worthy predecessor to the Z32.

I agree with you. The next Z will be a great successor to the Z32.

Not just a concept!

For what it's worth, the designer of the car and former head of Nissan Design America was interviewed on the radio in San Diego a few days ago, and he remarked that "the car you see right now is not a concept, its the production prototype, and thats what it will look like".
take it with a grain of salt of course, but personally I would not be suprised to see VERY LITTLE changes in the final car we get to buy.

Concept or Not?

It seems that we are getting hung up on semantics. Yes, what Nissan debuted is to become a production car, but it will not come to market as seen at the shows. There has already been conformation from a gentleman in another forum, www.350zforum.com, who caught a glimpse of the near production Z as the Marketing group studied the design. There are indeed differences in its appearance, though the silhouette remains the same. Center exhaust is changed to dual exhaust, fender fairs are reduced, turn signals are not in the rearview mirrors, and the front grill is smaller with softer lines. All this constitutes a change in the look of the car from show to production, hence the use of the term concept. Where concept is an impression of what is to come. I think most Z enthusiasts agree, concept or not, this latest release will be a desirable one.

Blah Blah Blah about Audi TT and the Celica

I just am so tired of people blabbering about copied this and copied that. Now I am not going to spend my time trying to prove my self with facts and such, but thats because I know I am right. Have any of you considered that other car manufacturers have copied cues from the original 240z or any other car from the nissan line for that matter? Thats all for today class.:flash:
