ANOTHER intake question
One of my friends fathers owns a c5 vette. He bought this nice intake that as the filter visible in the engine bay. It looks like a normal intake, with the tube ending in a k/n style cone filter, but the filter is housed in a clear plastic box, sealing it off from engine heat. The bottom of the box is connected to a tube leading out of the engine compartment.
I want a set up like this, with a CAI that has the filter located in the engine bay and visible under the hood. Has anyone done this w/civics? I want to get a Shortram and seal it off, but keep it visible. Any ideas? I'm still trying to come up with an idea. I'll put up a pic of his set up if that helps

There two openings you could use and either one is a custom job. The tube to the filter and the filter will be the same in any case but:
1. Easier: You enclose the filter in plexiglass and use clear silicone and some inguity to seal it all around. That way it'll only be able to suck air thru the hole while leads to the bumper which is where your normal CAI goes anyways. Or 2. Harder: Make a hole in your hood and put a hood scoop there right above the stock filter box would go. Then you use the stock filter box with a K&N, and cut the top of it off. Then with the use of rubber surrounds (like the kind found all around your doors and trunk), seal off the opening of the filter box so it only draws air from the hole in your hood scoop.

What would be the benefit of this?
Only one i can think of is that the filter won't be down in the water if it gets deep. So just get a Comptech Ice Box

im actually doing this myself with my lude. just getting a mandrell pre bent piece of aluminized steel from jc whitney for like 15 bucks and routing it right into the stock filter box with a k&n on end and it will be all sealed up. i know its gonna work just as good as a typical cold air because when i removed my resonator i noticed the intake manifold got a lot cooler after driving for a while, like im not able to fry a steak on it anymore.
