primer and print NEED HELP

I need helpp with my primer and printg. I give my primer 1 mist coat, followed by 3 heavier coats, I let the model sit for a week then I start to sand it down with 4000 grit wet sandpaper and for some reason I always burn through the primer. This is not only happening with the primer but with the paint also.

Can someone give me any suggesstions?? I'm at the point right now that it is very discouraging to do a model.

Also I'm looking for the Genral lee mags, they are the 10 spoke mags and they come in the Eckler's corvette and the 66 Buick rivera.
And the "chrome" mags off a reynard indy car by Revell.

Any help would be appreciated

BOB
