swap

Ok. I'm ready to begin the swap research process. I've been reading and looking and now I have a few questions that I couldn't find answers for, and were created by what I read.

I have a 1991 Civic sedan LX.
I want to put a DOHC VTEC 1.6 into it. Si engine or standard.
I currently have a SOHC non-VTEC 1.5.

I've read so much material that I am a little confused about the whole thing. What I have read says that if I buy a JDM DOHC VTEC 1.6 liter (just the standard B16A) then I need a mounting kit, wiring harness, shifter linkage, and an axle from a 90-93 Acura Integra. That sounds right to me from what I have read from magazines and stuff.

My question is, if i get a USDM DOHC VTEC 1.6, do i need a motor mount kit, wiring harness, shifter linkage, and axle from the integra? I don't care if the engine is the Si version or not. I am just trying to make sure I don't get screwed if there is an inconsistency in the JDM vs. USDM engine swap requirements.

JDM and USDM 1.6 vtec swaps require the same things you listed however, since the usdm b16s are newer you will have to deal with obd1 or obd2 and also you will have to use a cable transmission or convert your car to run a hydraulic transmission. For a simple swap use the jdm b16. I am almost finished my jdm b16 swap that is replacing my zc. Good luck.

another thing...since your car is a 1.5 i imagine its the dpfi fuel injection...youre going to have to convert that over to mpfi first.
there are a bunch of sites with information regarding how this is done.
either that, or go to www.hasport.com and shell out whatever theyre asking for the conversion harness

Yea the JDM B16A is much easier to deal with since it's OBDI compared to the OBDII B16A2.

thanks guys! i think i'll definately be going to a shop for this job. I was expecting the mounting and wiring kits, but the tranny work and stuff is out of my league. How many hours would it take, to do a complete swap? Well, at least how long did it take YOU to do yours?

Ok... i've been thinkin lots about this. Let's say I were to get a 1991 USDM 1.6 Si engine. Would i STILL need those kits? I would assume the engine mounts would be the same, and all I would theoretically need is the wiring for the VTEC. Is this correct? I think this would be my best option if it works. There is SO much more available for the 1991 Si than there is for the LX. Only problem is I'd still be runnin SOHC. But no biggy, as long as I've got a good base to start from.

91 Si's weren't VTEC. They are 1.6 liter SOHC non vtec. You might be thinking of the 92-95 SOHC VTEC. That is going to be more dificult. I think you will have to relocate one of the motor mounts and you have to get different axles. I am not sure about the needed mods for the 92 -95 motor. But you will have to do the same wiring mods.

Ok then, just the Si SOHC 1.6 liter engine from the 1991. ~125 horses USDM right? That should just drop right in with a wiring kit i would assume.

The 1991 USDM Si came with the d16a6 that produced 108 horsepower. It will bolt in. but you will have to change the wiring so that you can run multipoint fuel injection. Your car currently has dualpoint. Basically the same as doing a zc swap.

yeah, like 91zc said, youre gonna have to change the wiring anyways, so you might as well get a zc, as it will bolt in just as easily as the usdm Si engine.you might want to pick up an si tranny though, so that your geared better than what you have with the lx
