Ralph Nader and Michael Moore go waaaay back

Since Taranki liked the last one soo much here is another!

Once upon a time, they were good ole progressive soulmates. But then, Nader fired Moore, while a Nader associate then claimed that the idea for a little documentary on GM didn't quite originate with the person who made it. Later, Nader wrote a scathing letter to The New York Times, politely asking Moore to give him back the $30,000 Nader claimed he was owed.

Fast-forward to the 2000 election- the one in which Moore campaigned hard for Nader, only to help secure President Bush's victory. Of course, this grand- and hilarious- irony was left out of Fahrenheit 9/11, though you should rest assured Moore has not forgotten about it. Proof? Well, a few months ago, Moore went on Air America radio to apologize for helping to cede the 2000 election to the Democrats' rival.

This friendly bit of back-stabbing against the progressive candidate he had formerly campaigned for may have rankled Mr. Nader just a bit, because the other day, he released another scathing letter to Moore to the public- this one appeared on Nader's campaign website:

Once upon a time, there was Michael Moore the First. He never forgot his friends. Come time for the Washington, DC premiere of Bowling for Columbine a while back, he invited his old buddies in Washingtongave them good seats and spent the rest of the evening with them. During his other movie's premiere, he affectionately recognized how much those old friends helped him and supported him after he was mistreated and let go by Mother Jones. He was generous with his words and time.

Now there is Michael Moore the Second. Last night he hosted the Washington, DC premiere of Fahrenheit 9/11, and who was there? The Democratic political establishment, the same people whom he took to such mocking task on the road with us in campaign rally after campaign rally in 2000. Who was not there? His old buddies! Not personally invited, not personally hung out with.

...Your old friends remain committed to blazing paths for a just society and world. As they helped you years ago, they can help you now. They are also trim and take care of themselves. Girth they avoid. The more you let them see you, the less they will see of you. That could be their greatest gift to Moore the Secondthe gift of health. What say you?

Um...ouch? I mean, you'd expect the "right-wing gun nut" "henchmen" of the President to take a slight jab at Moore's "girth." But Ralph Nader? Distinguished, lifelong consumer advocate, public servant, and devoted, integral progressive Ralph Nader?

Really, though, who cares if you backstab your friends; if you abandon your political soulmates? If you're Michael Moore, you've got the #1 movie in the country right now, and thanks to your sweetheard distribution deal with the Weinsteins, you're sitting on a fat pile of cash way larger than anything the evil Disney gang would've slipped you.

Maybe he can use some of the money he made by cozying up to his former enemies to pay Nader back that $30,000, if he hasn't already. But let's hope that Moore knows that no amount of box office gross will turn back time.

If you were a scumbag with no morals perhaps - but even then it doesn't exactly mean that you're "friends" with them.
I don't think everybody would like to do business with wackos or murderers - even if the money was good, some people realize that there are some things just not worth it. Bad company is one of those things for some people.

But aren't you assuming that all of Osama's relatives are bad? As far as I know only Osama is bad and all his relatives want nothing to do with him.

No, but it's still bad company. I mean, I wouldn't buy stock in a company, if the owner's uncle was Kim Jong Il.
