at the risk of sounding like a moron
do most or all cars have rev limiters? meaning can you just floor it in first and not shift at redline without blowing the engine, or will the car limit the revs and keep harming the engine?

all cars from the factory now comes with rev limiters. but just because its there doesn't mean that you can leave the car there all day. it will still cause damage in the long run by running close to the limit all the time.

My car doesnt have a rev-limiter. Unless its past 8,000 rpms. Accidentally found that out at a burnout contest at YearOne.

Re: at the risk of sounding like a moron
There are cars out there that do not have rev limiters, but most are older and you start losing power after the power peak. All 3 of my cars are running stock engine management and have rev limiters

Mine doesn't...
I can turn that feature on through my ignition box but I never have. I just know not to rev over 7,200.

I dunno if mine would or not...but being an automatic, i imagine it would shift on it's own when the revs got too high. I've never just left it in '1' to find out though. I'd rather not find out, actually!

Re: at the risk of sounding like a moron
I know my MX6 doesnt.
When I was being a dumbass I shifted it into neutral and ran it up... to about 8 grand... glad it didnt blow up on me.

My brother has a 98 pontiac grand prix gtp and it won't let him rev past 4500rpm's in neutral but it's redline is 6200 when he's in drive. I've missed a shift in my car once, and it sent the rpm's around 8k territory so I don't know if my car has a limiter neutral? I'm getting confused.

Re: at the risk of sounding like a moron
an mx6 most definitely should have one.
your car (the mr2) should and most likely does, have one. |
