Who says the Z32 can't drift?

Thought this was kinda neat... I don't remember who but someone once said they were too heavy to drift! Cool pix!

Sadly... I missed this issue!

Re: Who says the Z32 can't drift?

no one said they couldn't, just that you'd need to take TONS of weight out...
they're heavy.
that's all...

Re: Who says the Z32 can't drift?

I can get my ride to slide a lil'... on the DH. I usually can get her to swing around using weight transfer or by using WOT on a corner... not so hard and that's stock weight on a 2+2!!!!

Re: Who says the Z32 can't drift?

it's one thing to get it out, it's another to keep it out there and swing through a series of corners...
i can get my prelude to swing out, but i'm not drifting...

Re: Who says the Z32 can't drift?

SHADDUP! I CAN link corners! I'm not dynamic drifting or anything! It's just that I'm on the verge of GRIP/DRIFT!

Anyhow... nice pic, huh?

I'm sure the Fairlady in that mag. isn't an automatic.

yeah. i never said they couldn't drift at all. i said in stock form, they are too heavy to drift. take out shitloads of weight, and almost anything can drift (Skylines, Z32's, Supra's, Z31's, JZZ30 Soarer's...they're all heavy-ass cars but all can and have drifted with lots of automotive Jenny Craig).

the automatic also adds alot of weight, so your car is probably even worse off...although the VG30DETT is heavier then the NA one, so there's alot of different combos. either way, the car can drift, but with alot of weight loss.

Re: Who says the Z32 can't drift?

Bottom line: automatics can go fast, we see it happen every day. SUV's can drift, they do it all the time (unintentionally). Anything is pretty much possible when it comes to cars.

But no true driver would choose an automatic over a manual transmission. I'm not suggesting that 1via chose the auto, he probably just bought the car because 300ZX's look good in red.

I would rather have a front wheel drive car with a manual transmission than an FR with an automatic. Unless, of course, that car was a Jensen Interceptor.

Re: Who says the Z32 can't drift?

what about SC300's drift, those are extremely heavy cars. Weigh around 3500 lbs. I see em in drift videos too. It could even be the SC400, which weighs 3700 lbs. Do they have good weight balance and handling ability? My bro has one, he says it's heavy as shit and handles pretty good but not as good as my 240sx

Re: Who says the Z32 can't drift?

wow thats cool, but its easy to break the grip in your tires, keeping it there is why it has to be light, when in a corner trying to do grip racing, if the car is to heavy tire grip will break

Re: Who says the Z32 can't drift?

The SC300/400 should be a decent drift car because it is probably pretty nose heavy. The longer wheelbase helps with stability while drifting. Just look at the early nineties BMW M5's that can almost sustain as long a drift as the dreaded Evo.

Re: Who says the Z32 can't drift?

I actually was not gonna buy my Z as an AT... my previous cars were MT: my '93 240SX coupe and my SER. But I got a good price on her and she is a beauty of a car! Clean inside and out ('cept for some previous ricer boy owner spary painting some of the interior trim). I really wanna swap her over to MT and a possibly swap the mototr for a TT. This cost much-much money... and I'm in no hurry. I kinda look at my Z as a long-term project. I hope to get her into some 'hardcore' drifting in the future.
