simple suspension/chassis questions

yoyoyo, newb at work

anyways, quick suspension questions, coil-covers are just tubing that goes over suspension coils? whats the point of them and does it cover the whole coil?

Also, dampeners, again, newb question but i don't even have a car yet, so i feel these question are appropriate =) anyways, dampeners are like shocks and stuff right? they just absorb the impact from bumps in the road and stuff, and what exactly are the shocks?

Lastly, do bolt-on mods like strut towers simply reinforce chassis rigidness? thats to prevent body roll right? does it do anything else and could someone explain if the chassis is simply the frame of the car or is it specific.

oh oh, 1 more, about settings and things, stiffer is simply less body roll right? but sacrifices ride comfort. an explanation of why the front is set so much higher than the back would be appreciated, as well as general help on any of these subjects. Remember, it's a newb here, so any information is appreciated, even if your just ranting =) SO thanks to all you "nice" ppl out here, lova ya ^_^

Re: simple suspension/chassis questions

strut towers and anti roll bars and such prevent body roll and make the chsis more rigged yes, most chasis can twist or roll very easily so these can help a lot, although some people don't like the way strut towers make the car feel/control. its just a matter of preference though

check this page out: http://www.fc3s.org/how_tos/suspensi...uspension.html
it will have some good info you can use I'm sure. its a how to for shocks and springs.

Re: simple suspension/chassis questions

A roll cage will help out imensely also... I plan on installing a Four-pointer someday.

Re: simple suspension/chassis questions

for stiffening the Z, read the SCC project car, they just added new stuff to the car last month or so...

in regards to these questions:
coil covers? no, coilovers. it's a spring/shock combo. very adjustable.

strut tower bars stiffen the chassis' rigidity by reducing flex.

a chassis is:
in a unibody car, the whole body
in a frame on body car, it's the frame
you can stiffen both, though.

stiffer can mean stiffer riding suspension, less bounce, or it can mean less body roll/flex with a stiffer chassis.
you can have one or the other, or both.

if you don't know where i live, how can you bludgeon me?
think now...

but yeah, they installed all spl parts...
upper/lower control arms, the t/c bars in the front, new bushings (bearings to replace the stock bushings), and the chassis bars that attach from the strut tower to the door hinges... sick stiffy stuff.
