ok, i am looking into purchasing the aem v2 cold air intake for my car (which is not a big deal but im curious) and it says that it will improve as much as 25hp gains. is this really true or will i see something like maybe 8hp gain if i were to dyno it. Would that be the best cold air intake to buy because it is a little pricy.

25 from an intake? Ha. 5-9 at best.
Wrong forum btw.

if you only have a stock airbox it will help alot. The box is restrictive, and you *probally* have an air silencer which just basically messes up airflow and robs you of power.
In retrospect, some piping and a somewhat cheep filter could do the same power gains...the injen is largly for looks and like...1 to 2 hp over what you could build.

Re: horsepower gains or not really??
Honestly your gains are minimal at best, the real benefits of the intake is the weight loss from the box and resonator and maybe the raw sound your engine'll make.

Re: horsepower gains or not really??
Look at the V2.. It's a metal pipe that claims sound waves will increase hp on your econobox up to 25 ponies?
I don't feel the least bit sorry for stupid ricers who believe that crappy sales pitch and go spend $250+ on one.

Re: horsepower gains or not really??
sound waves?
what do you think air is doing? moving in waves. the cancellation of waves can, and does, increase the velocity of the incoming air. its the same idea as the bose wave stereo, but applied to a car. and it works. so skeptical. it's part of the same reason a cai makes more power than a short ram. A. the air is colder b. it has a higher velocity, which can then be tuned. what do you think they're tuning when an exhaust header is tuned? wavelengths and frequencies. which can, and do , make more power. |

Re: Re: horsepower gains or not really??
Okay an AEM cai costs what, $100 new or something? Paying $200-$250 for a V2 that makes what, 2-3hp over the other one, just seems like a waste of money. Yeah the sound waves make a little more power, but come on.. They could make a flexible one that claims engine heat expands the intake for more flow and kids would empty their wallets on it.

look. bottom line is more air = more power. how it looks getting there is all up to you. If i were you, i would at least try to find a used system which should be a peice of cake for your honda. if you cant, i would try to take it to a shop and have them build one for you. it costs less than a new "engineered" intake. lastly, you can simply BUILD ONE . oooh sounds scary huh? try it. youll have fun.

Re: horsepower gains or not really??
Here is what it comes down to, an overpriced product that provides minimal gains on an underpowered car.
The money you save making your own intake with similar gains you can spend mendrel bending your own b-pipe and getting a custom exhaust, or any other DIY mod. Go DIY when it comes to an intake |

speaking of DIY, i just hacked apart my friends old AEM CAI to fit in my car. sounds badass and doesnt look all that bad either. i can really feel the improvement. not exactly DIY maybe, but that as close as i like to get. i like the brand name thing.
all i did was cut the thing in half, then cut the end off of the lower half, file it all out, clean it, then got some adapters and stuff and it went right in. it was very entertaining. |

Re: horsepower gains or not really??
for the fractional hp gain over a regular CAI that the V2 offers, I still believe it's just a big joke. For some reason, people forget that there really isn't any power in little bolt-ons.....in order to get real power out of a 4 cylinder, you're going to need some serious internal work, and/or some form of FI...
unless you've spent thousands of dollars, chasing after tenths of horsepower is really quite silly - sure it adds up, but unless it's CHEAP tenths, there is certainly no reason to waste money here. coming from a veteran :P - Nathan |

Personally, I went with a RAM air and changed the filter. Cheap, easy instal, and no major difference with teh CAI
