Door Subs

Hi Guys
I have 2 8inch subs sitting in my garage and was wondeirng if it would be a good idea to build a fibreglass kick panel and stick them in the front doors? I have 6x9's in the rear tray and 2 ports for a 15in sub in the boot! the tweeters in the stock postion have been replaced and if I go ahead with it I will proberly mount 6.5's at the bottom of the a pillar.

Cheers
John

8 inch subs in the doors???????

ok- uhhhhh- not to burst your bubble-

but you probably won't be able to 8 inch subs into your doors because of the weight factor... they are pretty heavy speakers and for you to put them resting on a fiberglass mount on the door??? hwoa- it would be quite impressive if you could do that... however it would be very heavy- and for you to not have any intrusion into the cabin (the cabin is small enough already ) you would have to sink the sub into the door a bit- which might interfere with your window.

second of all- where are you going to put a 6.5 in your a pillar??? the a-pillar isn't even 6.5 inches big.

i've read up on a lot of car stereo mags and i've taken apart almost everything under the dash- my suggestion would be this- install a fiberglass custom mount on the door for the 6.5s and then put your tweeter back into your a-pillar or wherever you pulled it from- and then make a custom sub enclosure to fit at the very very very back of the footwell- so it will almost be invisible from the passenger.... u probably can't put a sub on the left side- due to the pedals and stuff- so you might want to just make one good box with a port that shoots to the left side BEHIND the center console... this will kinda make the bass seem like it's more centered and equal for both passengers...

hope this helps- i didn't see anyone else reply to this post so i thought i would since i've torn the carpet apart before...

cliff.

Well thanks for ur replie. The tweeters are still in the stock postion just replaced with decent ones and I was planning on placing the 6.5 in fibreglass pods at the base of the A pillier(ie where it connects to the dash) I agree with the too havey bit so I will sscrap that idea I just saw a few SQ cars with a set up similar to wot I was planing and it got me thinking!

Guys...dont forget that its also not all about speaker size but placement is very important.

You can tell this by the sound boucing off the windows at the right angle...like when you open and close your windows you can tell a difference...of course, this doesnt apply to subs...but to mids and tweets.
