I've never used a torque wrench on plugs. Just use a 3-16" piece of rubber tubing and thread the plugs with that so you don't accidentally cross-thread a plug in the head and tighten down until the gasket makes contact. Then use a wrench to tighten them down another 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn is all.

Just make sure you don't over tighten them, or you'll have a bad day. The tightest they should be is when you'd have to put a lot of effort to continue to turn the ratchet. It should not be strenuous in the LEAST to put in the spark plug. If it does get strenuous before it seems to be all the way in, you're cross threading. Once you get near the bottom and encounter resistance, you're probably done. But most importantly, don't over tighten them. It's best to have someone show you first, and then do it.

when replacing spark plugs on a civic use the the rubber tube as was sugested above the when you are no longer able to turn the sprk plug freely witht he ruber tube get yourself the apropriate spark plug socket and give it anywere froma 1/4 - 1/2 turn of the ratchet anymore tunring and the next time you want to do the job again it will be very difficult to remove the old plug in worst case senario you could shear the plug from the nut down making it a very pricy removal dont use any grease or any onter lubricants the cleaner the better the job
