the two from cobra would be the ESD 9100 and the 9 - Band radar/laser detector just for reference.

The only one that will keep you safe is the Valentine One + common sense. Of course the cheapest is just the common sense....

Definitely the Valentine 1, the rest pretty much suck. I drove in a Prelude caravan from Washington state to Las Vegas, we averaged 90 mph over 1200 miles and saw about 10 cops on the way. Of course none of them saw us doing over 70 mph, becuase the lead car's Valentine 1 freaked out anywhere between .5 - 1.5 miles before we could even see the cop sitting around with his radar gun. If there was ever real world proof of the effectiveness of radar detection, that was it for me.

Valentine One used to be the king of the hill. But it's now being gained on. The Escort Passport 8500 and the Beltronics 980 have better warning of K and Ka band than the Valentine. Although the Valentine still rules the X band, there are very few X band radars left in operation (mainly in some midwestern states), and no-one is manufacturing them anymore.

My Passport 8500 has saved my a$$ more than once, and I can personally recommend it.

Here is an excellent site that rates detectors (look at the "Hi-end Shootout" article):
http://www.radartest.com/

Also check out www.epinions.com for some testamonials to the different products.

Good luck & happy speeding.
