whats the best radar detector for under 200 and do they really work?

i was just looking into getting a radar detector but im not to educated on them so any help would be appreceated.

Um, just get one that detects the most kinds of stuff, ebay is a good place to look after you know what kind you want. Mine is a Cobra 9 band something. I honestly don't remember. Just realize that it isn't perfect, I've gotten pulled over 10 times, at least half of those times I had the detector in my car with me. They are a good supplement to good awareness and paying attention, but they aren't saviours. Mine has saved me plenty of times, but not always, so just be aware of that. Also alot of cops will issue tickets for having them, so I always hide mine under the seat the second I see blue lights in my rearview...

Spend $400 on the valentine1. Its the cheepest radar there is for how good it is. While driving down the south padre it was routinly picking up cops at least 5 minutes before we got to them, and thats at 80+ mph. It has arrows that point in the dirrection of the radar source, and a counter that lets you know how many radar sources there are. It kicks the shit out over every other radar detector ive owned, which are a couple cobras, a whistler, and an escort.

both my sister and her husband have valentines. they love them. i would recommend you save a little longer and get something really good. Also, when new technology comes out you can upgrade the V. for maybe $100, but the other kind you have to buy a new one.

Now I am interested in this valentine...hmm maybe a birthday present?? My radar works fine for most of the time, but what sucks is when I am home for the summer, the cops (not highway patrol) but the normal cops in my town don't use radar, they put lines on the ground and clock you. They caught me last year doing 57 2 driveways outside my development. Luckily they dropped it in court.

My friend has a Valentine...he loves it. I'm going to get one sometime. He showed me how it works and all the goodies it has. Its pretty sweet IMO.

If i were you i would save up for a Valentine...but what Igovert said is so true. My dad got a Escort (i think thats what it was) like 4 years ago. He got pulled over more times then he did with it then he did with out it. The reason why is because he thought that the detector would do all the work for him...well...it didn't. In otherwords...he forgot to even look for cops. Anyways...i hope whatever you get works out for you and good luck!
